I'm off to the F1 test day at Silverstone on the 22nd August. This is open to the public - you need to register on the ITV F1 website (www.f1fanclub.com) as a basic member (no fee), then ring them up and book. As I now work for Jordan (or will be a few days after that day ) I should be able to introduce people to the drivers (assuming Jordan are there - they're supposed to be but I can't guarantee it!!) too.

Yex is intending to come, and Mark Champion too, I think?

I have never been to a test day, Excuse my ignorance but what happens? Yes i know cars drive around the track!!! but which teams how many laps etc. Keith.

Teams are allocated certain days at certain cicuits throughout the year to test stuff on. They might be doing tyre testing, new engines/gearboxes, race simulations etc. The amount of laps they do depends on what they are testing. sometimes they go out for one lap then come back in again othertimes they are out for ages.
The best bit is the pit lane walkabout. You get to see the cars close up and chat to the mechanics if you're lucky.

The drivers don't eat in the cafe. They have huge great coaches and tent things where they stuff their faces on what looked like rather nice food (you have all this to look forward to)
You normaly get a few marshals in there and the odd tyre bloke nobody really interesting unfortunatley.
