Default Southern Big One – Scoobies only – July 3rd Reading area

Can everyone please add their name to the list on the official site - www.SouthernBigOne.co.uk

Sunday July 3rd 2005

Right folks

Date & Venue decided and booked.

Sunday 3rd July at Beale Wildlife Park near Reading and very easy access from J12 of M4. Map here

I was really hoping to use a venue such as an Airfield and hold a 1/4 mile drag strip - but alas there just isn't enough time to be able to confirm that this could take place this summer and I want to give you all as much notice as possible. However plans will be laid for such an event next year

As well as a large parking area (field) and trade stands, you will get discounted access to the Wildlife Park itself.

I don't want to commit to too many details just yet as I am going to meet the Events lady at Beale Park on Monday 21st Feb. After then I will confirm details and start a new thread - just want to keep you all posted on progress so far.

Many thanks

Terry

Why should we let the Northerners have all the fun???

I’m at the early stages of planning a massive (maybe up to 500 cars) Scooby only event in the Central Southern area this summer. Venue, date & details to be confirmed, but it is likely to be around Reading/ Newbury/ Oxford area as it is very central and easy access via motorways. I’m looking to organise this at the height of summer – so July/ August maybe.

This idea has the backing of SIDC and I am working in collaboration with various other Regional Organisers from the South.

As this would be an event for you – the Scooby Community then I’d like to get an idea of what you’d like to see there and also to gauge your interest – so please post with any ideas and indeed if you could be interested in attending. My plan is for a free-entry event with Trade stands and Show & Shine and maybe Sound-Off Competitions. Also raising monies for Charity.

Please post on this thread with ideas on the following: -

 Location/ Venue – that can accommodate 500 cars.
 Trade Stands – any companies you can recommend to be invited.
 Things to do – what would you like to see there to keep everyone entertained (serious suggestions only please).
 Charities that could be supported.
 Anything else at all that you think maybe of interest to the organisers.
And post if you’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for your help. Once a venue and date is confirmed then a new, official thread will be started.

Thanks

Terry

How about the East of England Showground near to Peterborough?

Good road links etc, plus room and facilaties to camp if necessary.

BMF have their annual show there. 21/22 May this year

definately be up for this.

Please have something that you can do with your car. Walking around seeing cars all nice a shiney and then looking at overpriced products gets boring after a few hours.

A nice grassy area to do dohnuts or a drag strip would be a wicked edition to a show.

Posted this in SIDC but can't hurt to put it here as well!

Phil

Don't know if this has been thought about or would be at all possible, but I was reading on the
Prodrive website that they have a six acre site and a test track (Banbury Map). Did a search in google and found a picture of the test track on this web page

Would be perfect advertising for them to hold a National Subaru day there in conjunction with the SIDC!!!!! If they let SIDC use the site for free then all the SIDC need to pay for is marshalls!!!!!! Much cheaper than renting out a track. Surely a 6 acre site has enough room for camping aswell!!

Just a thought!

Sounds good!
Avoid the existing meets that are popular eg Japfest, Rallyday, Trax, GP etc. and it should be a great day.

I have to say this a fecking excellent idea! What better place to hold an event like this than the home of Prodrive. Good thinking Batman!

We need to make this happen.

you might be better off speaking to Jon Nealon (although he is hard to get hold of - busy man)
