Yeah, I saw that the other day
IIRC, its just on the left hand bend before the exit isnt it? I remember thinking the location was a little bit sneaky, especially as there are a couple of straight sections before it.

A new camera has appeared on the A21 southbound, just before the Tonbridge (A26) turn off, its on the left facing the on-coming traffic.
It cant of been there that long, just hope it wasnt there last weekend....

There are FOUR Camera warning signs in the mile or so before it and it sits right at the far end of the lay-by next to the big sign telling you that the tonbridge/southboro turn is next (couple of hundred yards ahead).
Because it's right next to the main sign, you don't tend to notice it despite it being painted yellow....

yeah - I remember there being plenty of signs....
But as I got closer to the Tonbridge exit (where I was getting off) I began to concentrate less, expecting it to be after the turn off.
SO I was a bit surprised when I finally saw it! Have no idea what speed I was doing though (but I had just been flying until the signs).
John.

I went through it at 78 on saturday and it didn't flash
2. I don't think they're live yet.
3. The council and Highways are responsible for these cameras AFAIK.

BTW if your're local to Tonbridge / Tun-Wells look out for the new camera at the top of Frant Road, A267, T-Wells, between Forest Road and Birling Road.
This is without doubt a revenue generator.

In Tonbridge the camera can be found on the A21 Tonbridge Bypass (on the coastbound carriageway, prior to the bridge above Upper Haysden Lane). There are now 2 fixed site speed cameras and 8 mobile speed camera locations in the Tonbridge & Malling district. The A21 site has a serious crash history and speeding problems, and has seen 6 people killed or seriously injured since 1999, where speed has been a major factor.

Yes, I thought it looked a bit different to your normal gatso. Lets hope it isn't live yet.
But what about painted distance marks on the road? There aren't any there (yet?). I thought that the law required that all gatsos needed the distance marks as verification of distance travelled in the set time between flashes. So if this is a new type, does that law apply?
Thinking about it, what about the mobile radar guns that leap out from behind hedges and do us? There's no lines on the road then. Perhaps the "law" I mentioned isn't law at all.
Also, if this is infra red technology, does that mean that your detector in your car won't work because it's loking for radar?
Confused of Tunbridge Wells....

Your in-car detector certainly won't work. I have one of the best available (Bell 550 Euro) which picks up any sniff of anything from quite a long way away but it wont detect this type. These cameras have been around for a while now, theres a bunch of them on the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon and a few on the A1 in the Lincs/Notts area.

There will be calibration lines but these just haven't been marked out on the road yet. That will probably be done overnight, as one lane will have to be closed at a time to measure them out properly.
The only reason the lines are there is to corroborate the camera. When a policeman jumps out with a laser or radar it's his experience that says your speeding and the gun corroborates him/her.
The camera is activated by driving over two wires in the road surface. The time between these wires is measured hence the speed is worked out.
Best defence from these cameras is an Road Angel or similar.

Nath,
Also spotted a new one, just south of the Paddock Wood Roundabout.
Alot of signs warning of cameras have appeared along this single carriage-way stretch i.e from Paddockwood turn-off to Lamberhurst.
Spotted the camera just passed the pub, southbound.
It a bit tricky to spot as it is one of the blue tall ones that I think has a camera pointing both ways.
I think it is roughly @ Kippings Cross on this map...

Nope... not the same as the camera's are bigger. They are more like CCTV Camera's.
I spotted it on the way back from Wales.
They had some the same there, in Milford Haven. All the locals were slowing right down for one them, so I'm gonna assume the worst....
Also waiting for a fine to come through the post (hopefully not) as they had a sneaky mobile unit on a bridge on the M4...white van with drop down side panels (camera logo on the panel)..... I'm not saying I was well over the 70mph limit, but I just hope that whoever was operating the unit has not got a grudge against Subaru's, and that my 17's cause my speedo to read slightly more than I'm doing.
Very difficult to spot that it's a mobile unit until it's too late.

Just found this, so it might explain the Camera signs on the Single-Carriagway section between the A21 Paddock Wood Roundabout and Lamberhurst..... http://www.kentandmedwaysafetycamera...dge_wells.html
So I'm not sure if this one is fixed or an occasional Mobile Unit...
The blue pole I spotted may after-all been Traffic Master

I went on a day trip on Monday and spotted yet another new type of camera on the road works on the M20 near the Channel Tunnel.
I think they are the Digital type that reads your no. plate as you go through, remembers your speed and time of passing, which is then compared to speed/time when you pass the next one, which is probably the regulation 1/4 mile down the road. You then get done on the average speed between the cameras.
They are each a set of three lenses, 2 smaller ones beside a larger centre lens and are suspended from a rather old fashioned type of bracket over the lane.
Beware - no flashes! But I suppose if you fly through one, then have a pang of conscience, you could go at 20 mph until you get to the next one........... Anyone know what the real story is?
