Thumbs down

Yep that is why the belt on mine kept jumping , all the slack is not taken up . Also makes the engine sound like its got piston slap , not that you could hear that on mine . Did it make any tapping noises when running ?

No tapping noises, just tick over was dog rough and it didn't want to pick up really. Still kept up with a new STi7 so could have been that bad

I spoke to three people that said eventually, cam belt timing is out, and you were one of them, so far play to you.

This problem and the gearbox drama, nearly made me trade it in on a MY01 WRX

School Disco @ The Acadamey that night m8 - I am probably going but thought that it might be possible to do both, i.e. get a lift from The Cullis into town @ 10:30/11:00 or something?

Mouse,

You can try a Tek 2.5 before you buy. I don't mind taking mine off and trying it on yours Snowcrash can also give it a try

Anyone would have thought that Babber was on a marketing exercise for that John Banks blokey...

What I don't get is, if your ECUs can be mapped, why can't the older type ones? Surely if it's 8 bit or whatever, it can still be re-mapped???

No they use different code and different technology, and for some reason can't be done. The Phase 2 Jecs ecus can be remapped. The earlier ones can be chipped (piggy back) which just raises boost and fuel cut. There isn't any clever stuff with that. Easily achieved with a Dawes.

The Jecs on the phase 2 is remapped to use better timing, fuelling and all that bolloxs, that why they don't run anymore boost than a PPP on my TEK 2.5.

It's better than a link IMHO, as you are getting all the cold start functions that Subaru spent years developing. Not biased, just did read up about it.

I will be going down the Motec route soon, as I need more power and I what anti lag I will have to suffer with poor cold start, and constantly going to a rolling road, and unreliability

Hope this helps, Cheers Phill C

i.e. like your car has been reliable recently

what i've been thinking is why cant someone make a device to go inline with a standard ecu i.e.

<- <-
ECU----DEVICE----ENGINE SENSORS
-> ->

so the device can get the readings rhat the ecu gets, and only adjust the data it needs too... thereby having cold start functions and things like anti-lag..?

or am i talking bollox,

babber - i would like a try of tek2.5

cheers

snowcrash.
