So just two weeks after we lost our beloved GSD we found a local lady looking to rehome her 7 month old pup. I asked the GSD rescue to facilitate the rehoming to make sure it was all above board etc and he came home with us last night.
Feels nice to have a dog again, but still (as I expected) not the same as Tara. It's going to take a bit of time for him to trust us and for me to train him properly. He's had a loving but unstructured start, so is full of energy and a bit nervous.
First night, I put him in his crate and within 5 minutes he was silent. He's down stairs now which he's not a fan of as I'm up stairs, but I'm teaching him slowly to be ok alone.
Meet Paddy .. I didn't name him, but I have a cat called Max .. so it kinda works ..

Nice one, well done... distraction helps to ease the pain.
I'm sure you'll have your hands full getting him into good habits and lots of fun training him... I love training dogs, very rewarding, reminds me of my first GSD they're cracking dogs, can see why you got another.

Forgot how much work these things are the huge plus side being he was crated from a very young age, so every night he goes in and settles.
My cat keeps pissing in my office though, rather than go down stairs and out the cat flap. I've bought a litter tray and he ignored it, the *****. Feel bad for him though, he's scared.
Just put him outside as he was pacing and I assumed he needed the loo again. He looked at me like how the **** do I get back in? the dog watched me from the crate too, but didn't make a sound, which is crazy as he's normally a bouncing mess when I come down in the morning. He must know it's 5am.

Great addition to the family Pimmo.
Hopefully both cat and dog will get on ok eventually and you wont have to invite people into your office who then think You stink like a Pole Cat...!
Happy days

That doesn't sound like a happy Pup ?
If you've got kids be careful, if the vet's scared, I'd be a bit wary all was not ok with this dog, why did the ex owner want rid of the dog?

Nice one mate.
He's not Tara (and never should be) but I've rehomed 2 Rotties now and thers something special about the bond you'll form with a rehomed dog. Take your time with him, he's only young and had a massive change in circumstances.
Keep us posted with progress. He looks a cracker

Blimey, you don't mess about! I don't come on here much lately, I think the last three times I saw a post saying your old dog had had a more favourable second opinion, the next time a post to say he had passed away, and now this thread.
I don't know if you recall a thread I put up about my dogs, and the eldest becoming senile.
Yesterday was the sad day we took him to the vets. Today I just feel p!ssed off. He was a lovely dog, shared the same birthday as me as well.

I'm sorry to hear that, it's an awful thing to go through.
Not having a dog was difficult for me and this chap came up for rehoming ..
This is from last night, his training is going well and he's settled in nicely. Just need to work on his fear of being attacked by people now.
