JDM Exhausts - how to make them sound better

Perdoimpreza, UK cars have unequal length exhaust headers giving them the 'Subaru burble'. Import cars have a twin scroll turbo and equal length headers, meaning they don't sound at all like a UK car. UK sounds far better (to me) but people will tell you to buy a JDM car over UK as they are a better car
All JDM Bugeye and Blobeye WRX (I know I had one) cars came with unequal as did all the GC chassis in all worldwide markets. From Blobeye STi onwards the twinscroll was fitted to JDM Imprezas (and Spec B GT Legacies after 2003, I have one).
The UK cars retained the unequal length as it was cheaper and complied with EU emissions.

I guess it depends how much one likes their neighbours. I used to have a full decat, deresonated, with a Vortex afterburner. It was loud, set off car alarms as I drove down a street, and apparently made buildings vibrate on cold start-up. I didn't really like my neighbours, though.
Judging from the video above, I can only assume Zany hates his with a passion!

You are one considerate neighbour, dude! Fair play.

Back pressure is only a thing on NA cars, and its more to do with keeping up gas speed on exit as they rely on the scavenger effect to clear exhaust gas from the cylinders. Turbos dont need it.

I think this was a Scoobyworld on my old Blobeye..
My opinion is it was a liitle too loud, but nowhere near as loud as a blitz
I haven't edited the clip as you can clearly hear the car when it's over a mile away
At the time of recording for the purpose of "having a blast" as I was selling it, I think it sounded great, but if you were to commute it was too much.

I think the twin scroll cars sound the best with raspy loud exhausts. So I think I'll need to replace my Cobra trackday friendly exhaust, it will probably sound too muted.

Burble or not, they still sound way much better than the Evos and many other 4 cylinder cars.

I'm considering a Tomei expreme ti for my twinscroll, mainly for weight, but am concerned it will be wayyyy too raspy. I think someone on here got one a couple of years ago, and sold it on sharpish due to the volume. Other choice is a H and S. Current hks mid section and sti back box is quiet but drones a bit

I had a sti genome backbox with deresonated centre section with standard cat downpipe on my jdm sti and it was quiet around town but very loud at higher revs, recently taken it off and fitted a magnex backbox, slightly louder at lower revs and a deeper tone, but much quieter at high revs.

They are loud without decat!

Wonder how my exhaust would sound with equal headers

Get ya Mrs to video it from the back end while you rev her up
we'll have a better comparison on the exhaust note that way
