and as the earlier graphs from the fed reserve clearly show the explosion of debt started in the 80's under Reagan (and thatcher)
and worse the debt was used not to invest in the infrastructure but as tax cuts to the wealthy - that is why the current US infrastructure is akin to the 2=3rd world (as I pointed out on this forum many years ago)
and we did essentially the same thing
the relative stagnation of wages for the working/middle class since the 80's was masked by the liberalisation of credit (just another word for debt)
that's why our "growth" is ALWAYS dependant on consumer spending - fuelled by cheap debt
who created this banking/credit deregulation which both help create a global elite and mask our **** poor economic performance - yes Reagan/Thatcher
and laughably the brexiteers claim our growth in 2016 is something to be proud off - lol, we have just put all the spending on the corporate and personal credit card
help by the BOE cutting interest rates and injecting billons into the UK economy on the morning after the EU vote

mmm, on would like to think so - that this year will be looked at in the same way the Battle of Borodino is (I went to the Battle of Borodino museum in Moscow on the day EU vote, and it seemed fitting then)
but (and in another literary reference)
"He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past"
I see historical revisionism every where I look these days
anyway looking forward to watching "Denial"

Incidentally, Hodgy, I read the other day that the dystopian novels are flying off the shelves; Orwell, Huxley etc. I'm feeling quite optimistic today...feel the force!

re hypocrisy this is another one worth pointing out
below is a picture Trump - legislating on what happens to women sexual organs
I like the remark someone made - "as long as you live you will never see a group of women legislating what men can do with their bodies"
I find it frightening - notwithstanding the fact my views on abortions have hardened ever (and I mean ever) so slightly
The mullahs and ISIS leaders of Saudi Arabia Afghanistan and Syria must have nodded their approval
in the same week that Putin decriminalises domestic violence
The mullahs and ISIS leaders of Saudi Arabia Afghanistan and Syria must have nodded their approval at this as well
meanwhile May is cosying up to a Turkish dictator - in the name of "trade"
we seem to be moving backwards JT

weirdly a path not followed by our Northern European partners who have spent the last 40 years investing in their countries infrastructure, invested in industry (other than banking) built high wage high aspiration economies with the consequent high productivity and low personal debt - and generally a more equal and less polarise society
(nothing is perfect by the way and all countries have problems and issues)
and the final irony is that their public infrastructure owns most of ours
but what do we do, we say NO we want to follow more zombie economics and align ourselves with the US
who have just elected a billionaire in a cabinet of billionaires in the belief he will save them
well I suggest the opposite will happen
experiments show that rats who are deprived of sensory stimulation will eventually chew their own legs off

I know, but at least progressives and liberals can rest in the deep peace of opposition. Getting morose and pessimistic is quite natural, but it must stop if it leads to defeat. Guardian readers may soon actually know what it's like to be oppressed.
Seriously, Hodgy (and I'm sorry to bring it up), my faith allows for hope.

I am on a dry January, and my wife said the other day when I exclaimed in frustration about some thing or other ( I heard on the radio)
"maybe it's because you aren't drunk all the time, it feels so much more real" - lol
roll on Feb when I can numb the pain
if you need to look at your oppressor - look up not down (ps I don't mean that in the "religious" meaning but more the socio economic)

Personally, I prefer a decent spoonful of cream first, spread evenly. Then a teaspoon of jam on top.
So strike me down!

Bollocks to all this jam or cream first nonsense, the real cause we Cornish/Devonians should be rallying against is the pronunciation of scone. Anyone caught prounouncing it "scon" should be sent to America with all the other deserters.

Without a great big shad.
"Scon" is utter ****.
I have arguments with my mates... They all reckon scone is posher/gayer.
Bollocks, is it.
