Default My Little 205 GTi 1.9

Great car, Had three of them over the years, same number of Impreza's so that must account for something. Hopefully I've managed to attach some pics

Thanks

She's a very late 93 so one of the very last and has covered only 65,000 miles, not bad for a 23 year old.

I've had a couple of Capri's in my time, worth a few quid now no doubt!

Beautiful Miami Blue example. You must be proud of her?

- I had a last of the line L-reg 1.9 CAT (122bhp instead of 130 because of the cat). In white, very nice condition.

I used to give it death, and ultimately never looked after it. Ran out of oil on the M11 northbound, just after Stansted -- big end blew and could hear pieces of metal hitting the road. Had to wait on the grass verge in the freezing rain for recovery on to Leic.!

Opened the bonnet, and I kid you not......a con rod was sitting serenely on top on the engine! Couldn't believe it!

Shameful, I know.

Mental little motors, with a hair-trigger throttle - like a terrier-straining-on-a-leash lol. They're real 'giant-slayers'.

Had a G plate 1.9 in black and a R plate gti6 in gold loved both of them. If I had to choose one to have now I would probably have the 306.

Lovely

Had an '88 black 1.9 (pre cat, no PAS) and loved it. Only sold it as the insurance was getting prohibitively expensive.

Yours looks way over tyred though. Spoils the looks a bit (for me)

Actually the tyres are 195/50's but are road legal track tyres so are perhaps 10% wider than standard tyres plus that's a 309 GTi rear beam on the car.

I'm due to fit a new set of road tyres on the car plus I have a freshly rebuild and restored 205 GTi rear beam ready to be fitted so it'll be back to standard soon

Nice car,
never owned one but build many rally cars in the shells, also MI16 conversions and the 2l turbo conversion with my old company.

only thing lets them down is the torsion beam rear axle.....grip,grip ..oh there we go spin out

Agreed but I'd guess that the majority of owners fit 195/50's instead.

Tell me about it. It happened on mine when serenely (relatively speaking) going round a roundabout, on the first weekend I had it. Couldn't believe it.

So fitted Spax adjustables at both ends (and the ubiquitous torsion bar lowering - but not by much).

Car was planted after that.

I had both a 1.6 & 1.9.
1.6 was blue, 1.9 was white.
This car is a really nice example though.

Used to have a soft spot for those. The Lotus 2-pot brakes sounded so exotic.

GF's mate's BF had one. As a passenger, those brakes felt mental lol. Oh, and that very 80s Amstrad-esque 'graphic EQ', roof-mounted LED boost 'gauge'.

lol, talking of Turbo MG's and "exotic" reminded me of the bill board poster for the MG Meastro Turbo

made for those who love chasing big numbers

Last edited by hodgy0_2; 17 September 2016 at 10:57 AM. Reason: replaced montego for Meastro

actually Zany I have edited my post - it was the Meastro, but I think basically the same car

yeah, it was a weird time for cars, MG were constantly dressing up 15 year old technology as "current"

not sure if you remember but the Montego Estate Countryman edition achieved a sort cult status amongst the Boots, Barbour and Horsey set, always with a Labrador in the boot

you used to see them all the time driving through Fulham, Chelsea, Putney Richmond back in the day

We had a lot of car thefts up here in the north west and still do!! and the montego was the easiest to Nick!! but it looked sick with the body kit in white I then went about the jap scene and stayed put but still have a soft spot for the Capri till this day...
I always appreciate a nice classic regardless of make it retains a certain character of its era which people remember and the memories are priceless

Well there's a subtle link in there somewhere. back in 1990 I had a 1.6 205 GTi and a mate had a New White MG Turbo Metro. It only took one 'dabble' one night to establish that the 205 was on another level to the Metro.

Lovely car, so clean.....i had two myself, 1.6 miami blue, and 1.9 red (more pink!)
The 1.6 was my second car aged 18 after a brief spell in a 1.1 mk1 golf.
Wish i had some pictures, i remember it had raised bonnet, bonnet bulge i think it was called?
