Default Front number plate.

Hi all, my car just failed its MOT on a few little things, anyway one of them was my front number plate. Its a sticker one. Its on the lower part of the bumper and you can easily see it and read it. I've had it on there for about 8 years now, but this mot tester has told me that I have to put the original one back on it.

My question is could I screw the original one on and leave the sticker one on too just for the re-test then remove the screwed on one so its just back to how I've had it before? This means I would be driving it to the test station with two number plates on the front and he would probably know what I was up to like but would he fail it again????

Cheers.

He can think what he likes...did he tell you to take the sticker off OR put the old plate back on...there's a difference

But he is right in what he's saying they are not legal now

Well he did just say I need to fit the original plate back on

Im annoyed about taking the sticker off, but is it really worth the hassle? I always liked the look of it with the sticker on, plus it let's more air get to the rad.

Best way I can think of to remove the sticker is to heat it up with a hairdryer and take it off steady. Anyone know any better ways of safely removing it without damaging the paint underneath it?

Thanks.

The rules haven't changed (from a cursory glance around MOT websites).
This is a good site - http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_630.htm
One of the number plate related failures that you could be falling foul of is 2C - a registration plate not fixed vertically, or as close to vertical as is reasonably practical.

How much of an angle is your sticker?

I have been looking in to this, there is nothing against vinyl / sticker plates here: https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number...-number-plates

The best post I found on this stated:

IF the vinyl backing is retro-reflective (which is possible to get)

IF the font/spacing/size is correct

IF it is marked with the BE EN number and manufacturer details

IF it it located appropriately on the vehicle conforming to the Display Of Registration Marks

Then there is no reason a stick-on plate cannot be used legally.

Cheers for all the help guys, I think it wasn't the actual sticker, but the angle it was at.

Im not sure of the exact angle but a rough idea would be around 50-60 degree angle maybe.

I've bit the bullet and swapped it back over to the regular screw on type original plate now as its got its re-test tomorrow and I can't be arsed with all the messing around.

Worst comes to worst if it annoys me too much I'll just put another sticker one back on and try a different mot place next year.

Thanks again guys.

How about covering the sticker with something temporarily for the test (to save you pulling it off)
