Default Are locking wheel nuts still necessary?

The locking wheel nuts on my blob STi are starting to look tired and rusty. It's a very long time since I have seen a car propped up on bricks with its wheels missing, which prompted me to ask a question.

Do people still steal ordinary alloy wheels? Mine aren't some expensive aftermarket wheels, just the standard Subaru ones. Is it at all likely that someone would try to steal them?

Clearly the likelihood will vary from place to place and I do live in a very low crime area but I was curious to know what others thought about this.

Tbh nobody goes for wheels anymore, it's your car they want now, and they'll break into your house if they want it that bad.

P.s don't buy a bmw
