Default programming a new key

2003 WRX blobeye.

i need another key, but subaru want to charge me 150 quid plus the 20 quid to programme it in!!

bought a key on ebay and got subaru to programme it in, but it they could only programme it to lock/unlock the car (which is of some use at least).

guy reckons that they could do the blade as the chip in the blade was the wrong sort....

1. how do i work out what sort of chip i need to not pay 150 quid for a new key!

It will be a Subaru only job.
A key cutters MAY be able to clone the key for around the 50 quid mark. But as far as I know the newages use a rolling code system, so the key will have to be linked to the car, which is a Subaru only option, or an auto electrician with access to SSM (Subaru Select Monitor)

If you want it cheaper, you might be better off looking for someone with a full lockset for sale with two keys, and all ECU/transponder reader.
just a thought.

pm jgm on here as he can code keys to the car, as I was thinking of changing my ecu and he stated he could do it and fit the other ecu. I also phone litchfield imports think they wanted about £25 to program a key to the car. The remote bit you could have done yourself only takes a few minutes.
