Garage security

I need to replace my garage doors, they've seen better days.
Has anyone any thoughts about whether solid wood doors with 5-lever mortice locks etc would be more, or less, secure than a steel up-and-over style door?
We hear a lot about people breaking into garages to get a scobby and so as I've got the option, I may as well pick the one that will make it harder for the bu66ers.
Any opinions out there?...

what ever you go for I would suggest you put a hidden PIR sensor covering the front of the garage, set it so if anyone goes within a foot of the door it gives an audible warning inside the house.
Ive got one of those cameras with built in PIR and bleeper.
no matter how many locks/etc you put on, it doesnt stop them trying.
The beeper sounded one night and I found two lads messing with the door..............they havent been back lately

NickB2,
if you have a mains supply in your garage, why not buy one of those plug-in baby alarms/listeners?
Plug the mike into the garage socket and leave the speaker bit where you can hear it, thus any crims furtling about will make their presence known!!!

Boomer I did that in my garage which was in a block.
They aren't half sensitive. When the bloke next to me put his car away after a night on the curry you could hear his bum burps clear as a bell.Charming.
One night I legged it round there when I heard some strange noises.Only a bleeding cat getting amorous on the roof!Doh.

yeah I'm one for making my garage hard to get into I've got a garage defender lock fitted in front of door (makes it impossible to lift up and over door when in place).
There is a sperate alarm in the garage which will ring in the house as well if activated and there is a autolock anti ram post sat in front of car. Hopefully should my car safe from the little bu99ers. Takes me about 5 mins each day to lock and unlock it all but thats the price for a peaceful night sleep !
If anyone wants the links that I've found for good garage security mail me off line - email in profile

The best way to secure garage doors is to drill a hole in each of the runner guides and then place a bolt through each one. This prevents the doors being opened from outside unless you remove the bolts. This only works for up and over doors and you require another entrance/exit point such as a door into your house.
