Am waiting for my loan to come thru b4 i can pick up my my99 wagon from local Subaru dealer. Fed up bothering garage now with questions but you know what its like when you have bought a car and then have to wait for it!
Any way one question i did not ask dealer was the black key pad in glovebox, what does it do?. I guees it is summit to do with the alarm.

Also do 5 doors a tailgate release from inside? Borring i know but i have to entertain my self some how b4 i get it next week.

Cheers

Yep it's the alarm keypad, you can program limited functions with your alarm, re-learn your alarm keys or stick it into mega alarm mode.

The main feature being if you are scared of people pinching your keys to steal the car, you can set the alarm so that you need to enter a PIN number to deactivate (or you can still drive away if the batteries run out on the key fob!)

Hi Rottie

You should get a card with the PIN number & instructions for the pad.

And yes you can arm the system excluding the interior protection.

What's going to protect the interior from the Big Beasty?

5 doors have a handle on the tailgate, which I think is much more useful when loading stuff than a release lever.
But it means if it's the car's unlocked at traffic lights then an oppertunist thief can open it and nick the stuff you've just loaded so easily!
You can set most alarms (including the standard Subaru fit one I think) to lock the doors while the engine is running, it seems that's necessary these days.
Hope you enjoy the car when it comes, bet you can't wait!

Nope, my wagon doesn't have a interior release lever. I take it you are talking about the one next to the pertrol flap release on saloons.
