This alarm has been on the car since I got it, but it's insurance renewal time and just about every single company wants the alarm to be Thatcham approved - which this isn't.
Does anyone know if I have to replace the entire alarm or is it possible to upgrade it?

depends if the insurance are looking for cat 1 or cat 2.....
Cat1 means you will have to replace the whole alarm system.
Cat 2 means you only need to add an approved immobiliser. If you fit a transponder style immobiliser then you wont event notice its there and you can keep your alarm working without an issues.
