Default 1998 scooby key code

hi
i have a 1998 impreza turbo wagon, only got one key with it, the locks have been changed since new, so the original keycode to order new keys is wrong, does anyone know how to get the key code so i can order a new one, then get it coded at the dealers, or am i screwed, they tell me a new lock etc will be over £500 fitted, not paying that.
thanks
jason

So have you lost that one key?
You can get that key copied at some key cutters, and they use the code on there. Will be £40+ though, as the transponder is not the average one apparently.

No, I meant get the locksmith to do the whole lot. Provide a key and code it.

ok, lol, but i dont of anyone round here that can do the whole job, so i will try and get a blank key from a dealer or a lock smith, then get it cut and get subaru to code it, they only charge £15, so it isnt too bad

Didn't think they could or would cut a key that you haven't bought from them. Different transponder systems. Go around to a few locksmiths. If you can get a key from them, they can code it. Locksmith used the basis of copying the info on your current key, whereas Subaru can probably only code from the key card, and can't read info already on the key.
Let me know how you get on.

I found two separate people round my way that could do it. But they wanted 50 quid as they said its encrypted, so I thought I'd rather get an original one done at the dealers as it would be around 75 quid.
