Having been asked by Tescos to get a tracker. What tracker do you guys & gals recommend?? And what are the costs of installation & subscription. The cheaper the better at the moment!!

Try:
www.ractrackstar.com and
www.navtrack.co.uk

How do I make these links "active"?

R 5C0DBY - does that include fitting, or does that simply buy the device and pay for subscription meaning it has to be fitted at extra cost?

Thanks. Dumb question: Does it *have* to be fitted by a certificated fitter, or can you just "shove" the thing anywhere in the car?

Specialist fitting only!

The guy that fitted mine came from RAC Trackstar (guess which one I have) wouldn't even tell me where he put it!

I've just had mine fitted too on the same deal from Gap security, the guy turned up in a white van from Trackstar, would'nt tell me where he put the tracking device either!!

Can't go wrong on that 0% deal really, cheaper than spanking £400 on the tracker then another £30 pm subscription, plus at least you can take it with you if you decided to change car

Got a RAC Trackstar Protector fitted a few months back, £78 up front and then £23.50 for 3 years ... they sent a guy out to my pad to fit the device which was part of the price.

At the end of the day are you getting the tracker for your peace of mind or to just to get insured?????

Tescos offer cheap insurance cover but then add the cost of £300/yr for 3yrs for the tracker. The insurance isnt so cheap now!

If you require a tracker for insurance only look at the Tracker Retrieve £269 + £99/yr. OK, It does the minimal but it is insurance friendly.

At the end of the day its looking at the final costs, it might be worth you going for the insurance company that is £100 more that doesnt require a tracker than have the extra outlay.

Cheers

Neal

Yea look at the cost over three years....

Trackstar = £80 + 36x £23.50 = £926

Tracker retrieve = £269 + 3 x £99 = £566

I know which one I'm getting.

As a side issue, my current car (not a Subaru) had an alarm fitted to it by GAP Security. The insurance company said I had to get it re-certified as GAP Security were not acceptable anymore due to "poor workmanship".

Double check that the company you use are VSIB approved.

Is there a tracker system yet where you can go onto a web page and see where your car is?

Where do I find a number or site for a Tracker Retrieve?

Healey - there was a product that does that on tv awhile ago. You can watch your car moving with average and current speed etc... from the net. You can record the last weeks trips etc... About 120 quid to fit. Can't remember who does it though. One guy had already used it to good effect proving his wife was having an affair.

Come on Micky, are you on commision me old love ? I had a look at the website, very pretty and almost caused a rumbling downstairs (It's so sad when this sort of thing gets you all worked up!) However I have to be slightly cynical having had my fingers burnt with Skynet and Telematix. I'm currently sourcing a new tracking system supplier for my business and would certainly not consider this device, not because I know there is anything wrong with it. If it does all it claims to do, first time, every time it would be a good device. However I now feel, from previous experience that what they are doing may not be sustainable from a commercial viewpoint and are more likely to be just another one that fall by the wayside. (My comments will surely spur them on if they have the fighting spirit!)

I've read all the comments made on here about the different systems people evaluated on their own vehicles and my decision will be made in part on those valued comments.

No not on commission, just pleased with it and a bit of a gadget man. A new toy to add to my arsenal of toys - Bel 990i Radar Detector, LE850 laser Jammer, Compaq Navigation System, Rockford Fosgate ICE etc..

I couldn't justify a grand. Maybe TrakM8 can't survive selling their units for £400 but I've got mine and I'm happy. The device isn't perfect - It's not thatcham approved yet so who's going to recognise it? For £400 I will risk it, I've had my car broken into and £1000+ worth of stuff stolen. I want to ensure that it doesn't happen again. My electronics are worth more than the car.

Oh yes if you do break into my car I may just send you a text - triggering a thunderflash & smoke!
