Thinking of using "auto-lock" - opinions?

Is this the feature that locks the doors when you start your engine and unlock when you switch it off?
If it is, then I have had mine enabled from new (53 Plate STi) and have no problems to report.

Great feature as long as your door pin switches are in tip-top condition.
If there is any doubt about them then there is a chance that you could lock your keys in the car.

It only tries to lock the car once when the engine is started, if a door is open when the engine starts then the doors don't lock anyway.
If you start the engine then shut a door, the doors don't lock.

I have it enabled on mine - only annoying feature is if you don't start the car within 30 seconds of opening (ie: put something in the boot or something) - then you do the turn key in ignition, press button, turn key back, start - you get a lot of locking, unlocking going on (clunk, clunk, clunk) - but all pretty minor in the big scheme of things.
I would say do it - small piece of security (particularly for women in car park type of thing).
Another thing on my golf - if you only pressed the unlock once - it only did the drivers door (for a bit of added saftey) - is this option available on the Scooby system.

I have doors that don't lock, how can I make them lock when I drive off / only the drivers door unlock etc.? Is it somethin the dealer has to do or can I do it myself with the keypad?

You can turn the Safety Lock (doors lock/unlock when ignition on/off) feature on yourself using the keypad:
With the ignition on, press the radio key once (the dash LED will flash once) press digit "4" on the keypad, then turn the ignition off during the next 5 seconds.
It may be necessary to arm/disarm the alarm a couple of times before the feature starts to operate.
If you wish to turn the feature back off, repeat the above, but press digit "5".
This should be covered in your operating instructions for the alarm system.
The Selective Unlocking (Driver's door only - brief press, other doors - extended press) cannot be achieved through programming alone, although a good auto electrician (not necessarily a dealer) should be able to rewire the vehicles locking system for you, inorder to use the M30's boot release output to unlock the other doors via a relay. The standard lock output however, must be used to lock the doors - this would be quite a job to be honest and labour intensive, but should be possible if you really wish.
The next generation Impreza (08MY) will have the Selective Unlock feature availble as standard. the new S-Series has a Selective Unlock feature aswell as a Boot Release feature and the vehicle's wiring has been developed from the outset to take advantage of this.

There should be in a separate manual for the alarm system in the book pack - it is a UK car with the standard fit Cat 1?
Your dealer can supply you with one if it's missing Part number SACC3534. Hope that the info above helps in the meantime though.

It is a standard UK car yes, purchased 2nd hand from the dealer (dealer owned it as the first owner).
Thansk for the info - will try it tomorrow in the daylight
And I will check the book pack (the black leathery thing with the owners manual in it?)

I'll be getting the dealer to do this for me; I followed the instructions in the book and ended up locked in the car after it disabled both key fobs and deadlocked the doors with me inside !!!!
Typical dreamer thing to do, but honeslty I followed the instructions
Still doesn't autolock either !!!
