Barrier Deadlock

Has anyone had one of these fitted? Was given the 'hard sell' when I recently visited the dealership where I got my car.
Is it as effective as it claims? Do insurers recognise it and offer discount for its installation?
And is £215 + VAT the going rate?

Around a year ago when i got my car i went for one of these and was told (by a very good alarm company) their nick name was the barrier dead loss for the reason they thought they werent much good and that the multi lock was better ( they sold both and would make less on a multi lock) but reading other sidc owners views they seem to think there is nothing between the two and personally unless there has been other development on the two would go for either depending on your money situation and they are both hassel free and dont take up any room unlike the old crook locks etc ( great for drag racing when your keeping the cars weight down to a minnimum and know you dont have to take wheel locks etc etc ha ha)
I paid around 150 quid for the multi lock but could not comment on your price as idont know the rate for them but what ever you get i dont think you will regret buying as they both are good but just remember nothing stops getting your car nicked if they want it. I hope ive been of at least some help.

Yes, it's very good. Lots of people on here have it, including me and Mr Webmaster. Don't know about insurance discounts. It's not been defeated yet in any magazine test that I know of. Highly recommended.

£100 off your insurance seems very reasonable, who was that with?
I think I need to shop around cost wise, seems the dealership are making themselves an extra £50.... there's a surprise

I am contemplating having one fitted to my MY01 but can someone tell me:-
Is it easy to use?
Does the button intrude into the footwell?
Will it ladder Mrs globAL's fishnets?
Does it interfer with seat adjustment?
I have been talking to Vehicle Security Installations in Liverpool who are the UK supplier (no connections with me etc)who want £195 + VAT. They will come out to you if you can get access to a ramp. They claim it will only take 1 hour???
Call them on 0151 489 4889 but think twice before leaving your phone number as they quite persistent.

I had a BD fitted from new about 18 months ago. They're easy to use and non-intrusive (much less than an Autolock). They take about 3 hours to fit. From my experience most insurers will discount for a BD - so it should pay for itself in 3-4 years. I use my car on a daily basis in and around Brum, and so far so good.

Its a device which is welded into the transmission tunnel of your car, with a key barrel visible in the drivers footwell. You place the vehicle in reverse gear, and push in the lock.... vehicle is immobilised.
Not sure if there is a site you can look at it on.. maybe someone else knows of one. As far as I know no-one has cracked this one in testing. Will not stop the ba*#*%ds getting in, but will prevent them taking it away

Door deadlocks - you can fit a deadlocking system made by SPAL.
However, I've seen the results of deadlocks... Doors crowbarred open. If they want to get in, they'll do a LOT more damage.
Dunno. It's a double edged sword, this one, but it is possible.

I agree with Chiark. In '97 some kids (I think they were kids) hacked open the door handle on my Laguna, even having smashed the window because the central locking prevented them lifting the door lock. It was a real mess, I had to have the whole door replaced.
If they want in, they'll get in. At least with Barrier Deadlock, they won't take the vehicle.
If a few people are interested, what about proposing a group buy?

Had mine fitted at their workshop in Huyton on Christmas Eve, took an hour but it was quiet so there were two working on it.
Got mine for £195 plus VAT after mentioning I was an SIDC member.
If you live farther away from Huyton it's not a problem, if they can find a local dealership who will let them use a ramp and there's a few of you who want one fitting they'll travel to you.
