sigma m30 6 flashes?
Hi
Been having some problems starting my car. Starter motor turns, but it doesnt fire. Was about to give up and get it towed to garage but when i locked it earlier, instead of the normal 4 flashes.... there were 6.
I unlocekd and then locked it again, and it did the normal 4.
Thinking about it, i dont think i can hear the fuel pump priming when turning the ignition to position 2.
Any thoughts as to what the 6 flashes mean? And how come it doenst do it every time?
Cheeeeers
Chris

I presume that you are referring to indicator flashes rather than LED flashes.
I suspect that you will have had 8 flashes, but only noticed the last 6.
8 flashes when arming confirms that you have disabled the ultrasonic sensors - the ultrasonics can be disabled by pressing the Radio Key button whilst the ignition is still on before exiting the car and arming the alarm (can also be disabled using the keypad).
This 8 flash confirmation is the only deviation from 4 flashes when arming.
With regard to your starting problem, what year is your vehicle? From 02MY the alarm only provides a third immobilisation circuit that isolates the starter, so if the engine turns over the non-start fault must lie with the factory transponder immobiliser that acts on the engine ECU or a faulty engine sensor etc.
Hope thats some help,
SS

Hi, cheers for your reply.
Yeah sorry, I was referring to the indicator flashes...
Its a '93 WRX. So it was an aftermarket fitment. Dont think its a sensor, as ECU code check brings up nothing... Don't know much more than that!

on an aftermarket install, both of the alarms immobiliser circuits will have been connected, usually one to the starter circuit and one to the fuel pump relay as you suggested.
Both relays are switched simultaneously from the alarm and its very unlikely for the one relay to fail - generally an immobiliser fault on the M30 would also prevent cranking.
I'm not too sure of the 93 MY fuel system, but it may be that if there is sufficient fuel pressure in the rail/line that it may not always prime,
I would run a quick search on here (now the facility is back up and running!) for similar problems - I believe MAF sensors can be troublesome and may have similar symptoms.
Best of luck,
SS
