Default Pager????

Anyone else got a pager for their scoob? I got one with mine from the previous owner. Its v useful to scare off snooping lookers as it lets me know if ppl are around the car.

Just recently the batteries seem to run down quick. Anyone else got a pager or had problems with them?

The main problem with RF (Radio Frequency) pagers is that the operating range is relatively short, often less then 500m across open ground and considerably less in built up areas. It's also inconvenient to carry the pager reciever unit with you, in addition to all your usual clobber such as car keys, wallet, phone etc.

The reduction in the price of GSM technology means that GSM pager units are now available for under £200 with a pay as you go SIM.
These devices, such as the Toad Text-Alert product can send a text directly to an assigned mobile phone anywhere in the world. Different text messages warn of an alarm trigger (or any other negative input), vehicle movement and low vehicle battery voltage.
You can even send a text to the unit to switch an otput that could be used to power a relay for example to unlock the doors, turn on the headlamps or sound the horn.
Additionally, for an annual subscription, the unit can be used to locate the vehicle at any time using the GSM network - a map showing the vehicle's location can be viewed on the web.

Although they cost more the additional features, unlimited range and convenience make these a more attractive option and provided you keep your mobile charged no other batteries to go flat!.
The standard Subaru fitted Category 1 alarm unit from 99MY - 06MY has an output when triggerd that can activate a pager, so connection is straight forward.

The question is how to act when you receive the text.

Sounds like a good, plan! I rarely park in nasty areas anyway, so the 500m is fine 4 me, plus the peace of mind my tracker gives me.

Have a look at the new Viper 480XV 2 way Cat 1 system. It comes with a pager remote. Very nice system and has a good specification. Similar spec to Ai606 with some features of the Clifford C650 + more outputs, 6 in total.

Interested in this GSM pager option. Do you recommend a particular pager unit to interface with the Sigma M30 in a MY05 STi ?

Thanks,

Scott

The "Toad Text-Alert" unit can be switched from the Sigma M30's "triigered output". This output is not used on UK Subaru models, so the wire is not present in the 20-pole connector, but a wire can easily be terminated and added to the connector at pin 18.
With this connection made, the alarm system will activate the GSM pager each time the alarm is triggered, sending a text message to your phone.

Contact your local Sigma or Toad alarm specialist for more details about the "Text Alert" system - your nearest dealer can be found using the link at www.tg21plc.com
