Question MY05 WRX PPP - Alarm Model?

Hi folks,

I am in the process of taking delivery of a WRX PPP MY05 (55 Plate) and was wondering on the model number of the Alarm fitted?

I know (From previous Alarm installations I have done) that it is a Sigma Alarm (They use the same control panels in other makes of car) and from what I have read the only model number mentioned is the M30, would this be mine?

The control panel is neatly fitted behind a drop down flap on the O/S of the car and the alarm itself is operated via the original Car key fobs.

TIA...D-an-W

Yep, the system fitted as standard to all UK models is the Sigma M30, so you can refer to this for reference to Operating Instrctions, features etc, however, for insurance purposes it is not the standard Sigma M30 evaluation number that you should quote.
As the alarm installation on all 2001 on UK models comprisses of an alarm system loom integrated into the vehicles standard wiring harness and works in conjunction with the vehicles factory fitted transponder immobiliser the vehicle security system was evaluated by Thatcham as a whole, and has it's own unique evaluation number.

The list below shows the correct "Thatcham" Evaluation numbers to quote for UK fitted system for each model/year:
Impreza 1999-2000 MY (where fitted): TC2-808/0198
Impreza 2001-2002 MY (all models): TC2-1199/0501
Impreza 2003-2007 MY (all models): TC2-1265/1002

Forester 1999-2001 MY (where fitted): TC2-808/0198
Forester 2002 MY (where fitted): TC2-1202/0501
Forester 2003-2007 MY (all models): TC2-1265/1002

Legacy 2000-2001 MY (where fitted): TC2-808/0198
Legacy 2002-2003 MY (where fitted): TC2-1203/0501
Legacy 2004-2006 MY (all models): TC2-1265/0803

Thanks SS, the Insurance company were happy without the exact Thatcham numbers. It was more of a configuration point of view I was after (They use the same codes on Sigma > Renault models )

Default my06 import, what alarm to fit

I'm awaiting delivery of an my06 wrx, imported from europe. It doesn't come with an alarm, so obviously I need to fit one.

From previous posts it looks like standard uk fitment is a Sigma m30. I'm trying to find one and get it fitted with limited success.

Is there a reason why they are so hard to find ?

The m30 seems to have been around a while, is it due to be replaced by a later model by subaru uk, and should I maybe get a later model installed.

I suppose the only reason for worrying so much about this is because it would be nice to be able to use the alarm buttons on the key rather than a separate fob.

I'd be gratefull to hear you comments and or suggestions.

the M30 has now been replaced by the S30, although I dont know if Subaru would have stock of the M30 for warranty replacements. Sigma Sam should be able to tell you for sure when he comes on

Yes the M30 was superceded by the S30 almost 2 years ago now, but because the factory fit the loom for this system on the production line in Japan we have had to continue manufacturing the M30 for Subaru alone as changes to vehicle looms take some time!.
I'm currently working with FHI now to integrate the S30 loom into the 08MY vehicles.

The only current advantage of the M30 over the S30 is that an alternative transmitter PCB is available for the M30 that can be incorporated into the vehicles ignition key housing - preventing the need for a separate remote.
Additionally if the import is a UK spec RHD vehicle, it should already have the M30 wiring harness fitted, although your installer will have to add two new immobiliser circuits to the connector for the Sigma M30 system to qualify as a stand alone Cat 1 on an imported vehicle.
If you really want to be able to do this, then the only way would be to purchase the components individually - as wannab4 suggested these are still available for warranty purposes. Obviously this would be an expensive way of going about things - perhaps you could pick up an old stock M30 kit on e-bay.

The parts you would require are:
Alarm ECU - SACC3465 (iro £70)
Siren - SACC3468 (iro £40)
Keypad - SACC3463 (iro £20)
Ultrasonics - SACC3467 (iro £12)
LED - SACC3473 (iro £2)

The follow parts are the all important replacement transmitter PCB and replacement key housing to allow fitment into the ignition key. The following parts make up one key:SACC3507 (iro £43)

Obviously you would then require an understanding Sigma dealer to fit the parts you have supplied yourself, program the system.and fit the additional immobiliser circuits to the existing loom. The M30's metal enclosure must also be fitted to retain Cat 1 status, unfortunately this is not available as a spare part from Subaru - perhaps your Sigma dealer could help you out again here.

Alternatively the S30 is readily available from Sigma dealers and offers all the features of the M30 and considerably more.
The only downside is the necessity of the separate remote, but if you can make do with this until 2008, then an alternative transmitter for the S30 that will fit into the ignition key housing will be avilable... provided that 2005 and 2008 key designs remain the same!

Wow, thank you for such a comprehensive answer.

It looks to me from what you've said my best bet will be the s30 then. Getting all the bits for an m30 and finding a sympathetic dealer might be more trouble than it's worth just for key integrated alarms buttons. Still a possibility in years to come though with the s30 (maybe).

This is the first time I've had to consider fitting an alarm, usually I wouldn't have considered an import. and uk cars normally have them fitted, but seeing the discounts to be had I would have been silly to buy a UK one.

Once again Sigma Sam thank you very much for your time and info.
