Question Alarm PIN (MY99)

Hi guys. I am attempting to alter my PIN code on my alarm… According to the instructions the LED on the keypad lights once to confirm pressing the button – this is the case. However, a flashing led means that you have to start the sequence again. My LED flashes when I have entered the fourth digit of the existing PIN number (which I have found with the vehicles’ documentation). This means that I have to start from scratch and am not able to enter my new PIN. Does it suggest that the PIN I am entering is the incorrect one to the one I have ‘found’ (has the previous owner changed it?), or am I doing something stupid??

Sit in the car and wait for the imobiliser to kick in, then enter the code to deactivate the imobiliser, if it won't work the codes been altered.
