Factory fit alarm keypad - doesn't work when cold!

Hi guys,
Has anyone had any problems with the keypad for their factory fit alarm/immobilizer?
Mine doesn't work at all in the cold!
Found out on Sunday night after being on holiday and "super locking" the car. Got back, went to disarm to alarm (open door, alarm sounds, key in code etc...) and the keypad failed to work at all. (Little red LED didn't even flash)
Ended up calling out Subaru assist (who were very quick and very helpful) who managed to stop the alarm and get the super lock off. They sent me to my dealer on Monday morning to have the system checked.
Dealer replaced keypad and checked the system for fault codes etc, but I'm still having the same problem.
This morning, for example, the key pad didn't work at all (ie, no red led whenever I pressed a key) until I'd been driving for 15 mins and the car was warm - then it was perfect!
Has anyone else seen the same?
Will you try your keypads for me tomorrow morning when the car is cold?
It looks like it could be some sort of a cold/damp problem with the keypad membrane.
Cheers!
Rich

where is your keypad situated in the car? if its on the screen then could be that the cold from the screen is freezing the internals of the pad? you may need to move the pad to another position in the car i.e poss near the handbrake or in front of the gear stick?

The keypad is in the fuse box, to the right of the steering wheel.
This is where Subaru UK fit them as standard on all Impreza's and Foresters these days.
Don't think it would be possible to move.
I think it's probably a design fault with the keypads.
It wasn't freezing this morning - about 3 or 4 degrees.
Cheers 4 now.

Don't have a problem with mine , but it is on a classic shape and the key pads in the glove box , so they must have changed them .
Someone must be able to help more , good luck

Come on guys, any info for me on this.
Will you guys try your keypads for me tomorrow morning?
I'm confident it's a keypad design fault, but need some info to pass back to my dealer!
Cheers!

Hiya WannaB4,
My dealer replaced the keypad on Monday.
Same problem with the new one though.
Any ideas what it could be?
It's the factory fit Subaru UK Sigma system that I have.
Cheers

Did you see them replace it - or was it a case of "We changed your keypad sir, everything will be fine now"
I suggest placing a tiny mark / scratch on the original than getting it replaced (Old trick for oil filters when going in for a service).

Well, it gets MUCH better!
Friday night - drove to my girlfriends straight from work.
Parked on the drive - locked car as normal.
Two hours later, go to unlock car with fob - nothing happened!
"Oh sh*t" I thought - "it's really bu**ered this time"!
I guessed all along that it may be the alarm control computer that was knackered.
Girlfriend drove me home to get spare set of keys. Tried other fob, still nothing!
Decided I wouldn't open the car with the key and use keypad, as the likelihood of the keypad working was about zero!!
Phone Subaru Assist who sent an engineer out.
Opened door, keypad didn't work, disconnected battery to stop alarm!
After about five mins, the recovery guy reconnected battery and started car as normal. He suggested I take the car to my dealer ASAP!
Saturday morning, car unlocked and started as normal.
Took the car to my local Subaru dealer, Oaken Garage, Wolverhampton, who ummed and arred and decided that the alarm control box needs to be replaced.
Their workshop is closed on a Saturday, so nothing is going to happen until Monday!
Now I have no car (Oaken hadn't got any loan cars available), so I had to get picked up from Oaken and I've got to get the train to work (2.5 hours!!!) and back until I get my car back!
I'm a bit cheesed of with Oaken. I can't believe they hadn't got anything they could lend me. Oaken are normally excellent, but I feel really let down by them this time!
Still, these things happen I suppose.
So, it's obviously NOT a keypad problem - for anyone who's worried about theirs.
Cheers for everyone who's checked theirs - I'll let you know how I get on this week!

FYI - The main alarm control box was knackered.
One evening the car simply wouldn't unlock!
Got assist out, took to dealers (Oaken Subaru, Wolverhampton) and they replaced alarm control unit. Apparently, when they connected it to their diagnostic computer it wouldn't even talk to it!
All fixed now... fingers crossed!
Cheers
