I'm looking at getting some form of tracking device for my new car (after the Scoob was stolen a few weeks ago with no tracker).

Any advice on +/- points for any of the usual makes to consider.

I'm probably going to go for the monitor type (where the movement is detected, rather than having to be notified to the tracker co.)

Any advice most welcome.

I've just had my RAC Trackstart fitted today. I got the proactive one and they sent a faulty unit so its fitted but not working.

After paying almost £900 with life time subscription I'm not happy I need to wait until friday for them to fix it.

Has anyone else had problems with a RAC Trackstar?

Cliffords sat tracker monitors your car 24/7 one quick phone call and they can tell you where your car is and how fast its going

I would recomend going for a clifford alarm as well with the anti hi-jack built in with this you need to enter a 4 dig number with in 15 secounds or so of starting your car or it cuts out and will not do anything on tell the code has been entered, you also get prox sensors so if someone gets too close to your car it makes a nose to worn you its being messed with this alarm has saved my car twice!

I've got RAC Trackstar. Car got towed a while back but I forgot to let them know; RAC called to say car moving; I called the garage (they should have told me before moving it) and they advised that it was just being towed out of the forecourt! Good investement.

Mines a DanTrack GPS tracking system. Its a 24hr monitoring system; £500 fitted plus £100 subscription.
Its Thatcham Category "Q"...dunno what that is technically, but its the new breed of insurance friendly devices, I've been told!

Oh and it was fitted by a security company based in Cheshire...
One more thing - you can add a SatNav device to it at no extra subscription charge.

My RAC trackstar is fine (probably), now they have finally got it to work. The original unit was shipped with a duff SIM, it took them 3 days to diagnose this, and then a further 2 days to get a working SIM to the fitter. In this time, my car was effectively uninsured against theft. I called RAC trackstar repeatedly to chase up the progress of the replacement SIM. They failed on every occasion to return my calls. I'm sure the hardware is fine, but I doubt that their customer services people could find their own backsides with a map and a torch, let alone a stolen car!

(rant over).
