I have a my99 impreza and I am going to change insurance companies, they asked me if I had an alarm/imobiliser fitted. I told them that there was a cat 1 alarm on the car. Am I wright? is the standard Subaru alarm thatacham cat 1 or what?

I believe you're right , cat 1 if its a UK car (not an import)
try a little look in the security section there's always questions in there on them .

If it's a UK MY99/00 then it woould have been fitted with a Sigma M30 alarm, which is Thatcham Cat1 approved. Your car should've come with all the paperwork and the certificate to prove this.

In the little Filo-Fax document holder you hopefully got with the car will be a plastic envelope containing a couple of stereo clips and a little piece of paper to prove it was installed correctly to CAT 1 standards and most (if not all) insurance companies need to see a copy of this ticket.
I might be wrong tho`
