Question

Has anyone managed to convert a classic scoob's boot release to electric so it can be operated from the alarm's remote?

I've got it all wired up via a relay to my Concept 600 which then operates a solenoid to pull a cable and release the catch the same way the interior cable operated release works. However although it pulls the catch the travel obviously isn't enough cos the boot won't open. If I position the solenoid slightly further away to give it more distance the plunger is too far out and won't pull at all!

That was the best solenoid I could get from Maplin, cost over £20 and it's useless for this application . Any ideas? I don't wanna pay stupid prices like £60 for a boot release kit, you get a length of cable for your extra £40

Cheers

...that's why you need a proper boot release kit. You need a long throw solenoid.

Make sure you clamp the relay and solenoid for back EMF.
