Dougy Giro: Yeah Yeah Yeah
Just cos you don’t know as much as me.

Just in case you do learn something I don’t know, I will pose the question and its very simple.

How do I avoid getting caught by a laser device, as used by the Road Safety Van and plod stood at the side of the road?

A little help with the answer.

1. Tail Gate and block the laser view, not a good idea!
2. Jammer, this still needs detection, and Illegal to use.
3. Remove your index plate or change the numbers/letters also illegal

Please research thoroughly

Please don’t take serious, just poking fun

Scooby T...

Mmm... That read a little wrong!

The actual limits are between 30 and 50 along this stretch which is all twin lane (rather than dual caraiegeway)

The cameras are all in the 30 limits and to be honest are very badly placed. ALL traffic after passing the cameras speeds up to a 'natural' 40. One 30 stretch is a few hundred yards long and is pure, dead straight twin lane with no side roads, crossing or any other remotely dangerous or hazardous features. 40 is definately the natural speed for this and everyone does it.

It's not big or clever, but in this case (and a few other stretchces) 30 is way too low and hinders progress.

You do have to see it to appreciate the stupiditity of it all.

I'll stop digging my hole and get my coat!

Question

In relation to the debate on my other thread, I have asked the local authority (based in Bradford) if it would be possible to arrange a demonstration of a speed 'trap'.

As this is early days, I have not recieved an answer back as to the possibility of such a demonstration and to the technology that would be on show.
Regardless, it would be a great oppurtunity to see the operation of such a 'trap' and to hopefully speak to the operators themselves in order to get a better understanding of the system.

If such a demo could be arranged, how many would be interested in turning up to such a Yorkshire based event?

Just post in the positive and I will duly update you all on its progress.

Al :-)

Just stop at the next one you see !
No doubt the copper will be on overtime and bored out of his head so he won't mind demonstrating his equipment

Seriously - I stopped to ask one if I'd been done (wasn't concentrating) and low and behold it's only uncle Gary (Dad's mate from years ago).
1/2 hour later I knew all the local trap sites, what limits the machines are set to, how they work etc etc etc... and that my previous statement, about overtime & bored, is completly true. Hadn't been done either, which was nice
At the end of the day they are only human.

Nice one! But I don't think I have a long lost uncle, who's on a local speed trap and who's willing to spill the beans!

And I'm not sure how forthcoming they would be if I stopped on the local 'A' road to ask them to give me thorough rundown on their system!

Is that a 'yes' or 'no' by the way?

Deffinate NO - I'm not listening to that twaddle again

Try it though !
So long as you don't block the camera by parking in the way, the copper is there just to stop people nicking it ! (People who've been done suddenly become cat burgulars)Its all automatic once he's set it up,so he'll have nothing better to do than have a natter (and we all no coppers are good at that !)

Worse he can do is say - Go Away !

OK No problem mate.

I was thinking more along the lines of a proper setup with a few mobile units, maybe even a test run (runway or some other private ground) of a some cars with detectors giving them a taste of how much chance they have with lasers?

Also worth a try if you have a detector and want to see how effective it is in a controlled environment.

They can always say no.

Ho Hum.

Hi Ajax,

Maybe you have mate, but I've never been done or seen them in action, and if it's been done before then I'm afraid I missed it!

Well, no too an auspicious start from two cynics

Any takers?

Absolutely mate, will do.

In fact I'm quite enjoying this research into detectors.

Problem is, I'll take 3 months to get my head around it and they'll bring another bldy unit out!

OK Dave!!

Phew, I was starting to feel sad and lonely!

I've no idea on waht they can provide, but I'll get them to make it as interesting as I can, in fact a couple of attack dogs may do the trick, you can dress up in that protective gear for a few practice runs. That'll brighten the proceeding up no end!

I can't resist this...

Ajax, please take as light hearted too.

Nobody loves a cynic, except maybe another cynic.

The dictionary definition of a cynic;

"A faultfinding captious critic; esp. one who believes that human conduct is motivated wholly by self-interest."

A far more humourous definition....

"An idealist whose rose-colored glasses have been removed, snapped in two and stomped into the ground, immediately improving his vision."

He he.... I'm on a mission to make sure you learn something now!

Alan C:
Go for it m8, I see you are a man with a mission, just like the blues Brothers

I want an answer, waiting!

See you are from Wakefield, was up their at the weekend from Oxfordshire, went to RAM to get my alarm sorted, and onto JAPS Thorsby

My m8 at Blackspot Interactive (Road Angel) looked it up and you have a road with six gatsos in one road, sent my road angel partying.

Drove Sheffield and it was full of specs, party on Road Angel.

Don’t get me wrong, I have sin it and dun it.

Make yourself known to me and we will have a chat and a bloody good laugh, next meet at JAE Billing, SIDC Member I will be there on the Sunday.

Tell me about it. I live on the road in question!

Definately a little over the top. Can't be more than a mile, mile and a half with 6 fixed Gatso. I've even seen a mobile unit parked a 100 yards past one of the double sets! With three round abouts, a couple of blind bends, two sets of junction lights and few pedestrian crossings thrown into the same stretch... you can barely get above the 30 limit anyway...

As you can imagine.. it's probably the safest mile in the UK!

The JAE Billing meet. Is this at the Nottinghamshire Aerodrome?

I won't be able to make Sunday, especially if its in Nottingham.

As for the RAM guys, I'm only a mile or so from them. So if you are back up this way, let me know and we can meet up..

JAE 2003
26-27th July 2003
2003 Will mark the tenth outing of the Japanese Auto-Extravaganza at Billing Aquadrome with over 58 clubs expected to attend.

It’s a small world when you have got a Scooby.

Here is a good one, and its legal to.
Did you realise that you don’t have to do 30 MPH in a 30MPH speed limit

I have been doing 25MPH and its grate fun, you can get a queue of traffic going back miles.

To think I am saving lives and screwing the environment all in one hit driving in third gear all the way home

Don’t know why no one seems to want to overtake, can’t think why. Anyone?

SCOOBY TOWERS:

I think you missed the point
I am driving at less than the speed limit 25mph in a 30mph

And why is your child in the road, don’t make me feel guilty at driving on the road perfectly legally.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DRIVE AT THE MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT ON ANY ROAD

HAVE I MADE IT CLEAR NOW!

If he does... then he's the guy with the flat cap, pipe and slippers... he he..

You sound taller from the posts.. Must be the keyboard you use!

No flat cap either.. Where's the pipe? That blows my theory out of the window. I am disapointed!

By the way, what do you drive?
