I used to have a multi-lock fitted to an astra a few years ago, the only thing that peed me off was having it next to the gear lever when driving (looked too big).
I had mine fitted in Huddersfield at a place called "trim shop" on Lockwood road, they do all interior refurbs, alarms, etc, there is also a place on York road in Leeds (can't remember the name) who fit them.
The other device you're thinking of is the "barrier deadlock" these look much neater

Mate has a device fitted by TSL that locks the gear lever in reverse. Very neat job and peace of mind. Don't think it made much difference with his ins company though.
Edited to say it is a welded in unit. Sits in the side of the front passenger transmission tunnel, does not get in the way when driving etc.

I used to have a mul-T-lock fitted to my old R5 turbo. They're mega strong and I reckon a thief would have a hard time removing it.
I actually wanted to cut the length of mine down by an inch or two when I fitted my short shifter so I got the hacksaw out...........3 hours later I'd started to make a tiny groove in it. In the end I went to HSS Hire and got one of their industrial diamond tipped cutting thingys which hacked it off in a couple of minutes
