it's incase your key fob is duff and you need to immobilize/mobilize your car, you should have a 4 digit number etched into your memory

You also use it to set different features on your alarm, i.e all the doors lock when you start the car, or the code MUST be put in before the car will start. Plus like rasher said if your battery goes flat in the keyfob or you brake it you can open the door with the key, and then key in you pin number on the pad and the car will then start.

Not sure what you do if you haven't got the pin nunber though.

James.

ricky
It is advisable to get and a remember this code because I have had to use it when parked near a mobile telephone mast apparently they can block the signal from your key fob and the only way to get your car started is via the keypad. There is a mod available but it will cost you unless the car is still under warranty then you only pay for the labour.I put a post out ages ago about this but can't remember all the areas affected but the car park in Skipton in north yorkshire is affected.
