Question

Insurance renewal time and it looks like I may have to get tracker monitor fitted to my STi V to get the premium down by going with Tesco. Speaking to the guy at Subaru insured he mentioned that my thatcham cat 1 alarm a cobra 7929 was not really up to spec compared to what they fit to the UK sti for example.

Is this true - if I fit a new alarm what more do I get? What is it likely to cost me. Should I think about secure film and deadlocks?

Can anyone recommend an installer that can do all the above in the Northwest area? Although for that matter if I was spending that much it would be worth me travelling for a good deal. Who do people recommend?

Erm. He probably shouldn't be saying that. To insurers a cat 1 should be a cat 1 providing it's fitted properly... I'll have a word with Rum* to see what they're on about.

The UK Sti has a tracker fitted as standard, and the STI 8 has deadlocking, as do all the new new shape imprezas.

My type R has the same cobra fitted - and I'm binning it for a newer one this weekend (+ some other security )

If Birmingham is not to far - look for Dr Clifford in this formum - I'm going to his place - motorguard ...

I noticed it is the 7928 actually but it is still sold and is in fact slightly more expensive than the Sigma M30 fitted to the uk Sti.

Need to figure out how to program the auto re-arm if accidentally disarmed function as this seems to be disabled on mine.

For an extensive list of alarms:-

Are you going for a clifford from motorguard?

Apart from lots of extra sensors (shock, microwave proximity etc) that you could have fitted to an existing alarm and which seem to cause people sleepless nights if they aren't set up correctly what do the newer ones offer? I don't think the basics have moved on much from the laserline 996 that I had on my old 220Gti and that was about 7 or 8 years ago. That is up to version 3 now but the features appear to be the same. That was a good cat1 alarm with auto arming and was easy to operate.
