How much fun was that karting guys ?
I think we'll have to try and arrange for Raceland to install a sprinkler system for our next race.
Well done to Team Tiv (TVR owners), who came in first. Brave tactics for each driver to do a 40 minute non-stop drive, especially in the changeable conditions. They weren't the fastest by any means, but consistency and lack of spins kept them at the top of the leader board.
Team Truffles came 2nd, despite some aggressive driving and several additional stop/go penalties etc. They were competeing for the lead at one point during the race, but a few spins cost them dearly at the end of the day.
Team Sonic Blue came third We were between 4th to 6th for most of the race, until the rain started again, and some great lap times by Colin (some 4 or 5 seconds per lap faster than anyone else at the time for a period) helped push us up the leader board. Good consistent drives by Willie and Paul also helped our cause.
Congratulations also go to the Crailthrashers 2 team, for setting fastest lap of the day at 57.11 seconds. Quite an amazing achievment given the fact that the track was damp for most of the race, though a dry line did appear for a while. Quite a few other teams got times in the low 58s as well.
Last time out, the best lap times were hovering about the minute mark, so it shows the new karts are at least 2 - 3 seconds per lap faster than the old ones
At the end, even the last placed team were only about 10 laps off the lead, which after 4 hours racing is incredibly close. Looking at the results of out first ever race, the gap from first to last was 19 laps after two hours, with many teams between 7 and 15 laps. I think it goes to show that the handicapping system we operate to even things out is working well.
Next time we'll be taking a set of scales along, just to double check some of the weights, and anyone declaring a weight more than 2Kg out will earn their team an additional stop/go penalty!
Anyone for another event in a few months time then ?
John

An excellent day's karting:
I had one 20 minute stint in the dry and enjoyed the "full on" approach (I'm convinced that gritting your teeth with the odd "come on you ba$tard!" on the bottom corners actually helps the lap times!)
..and one 20 minute session in the wet trying to learn the art of steering with the throttle. Not too easy, especially as the throttle felt like ON/OFF to my inexperienced feet, but HUGE fun to do.
Thanks very much John for organising - you clearly put a lot of work into this, and the whole event felt really slick.
Thanks also to my team mates - for inviting me into the team, and for the many laughs throughout the day.
Am I up for the next one? - you bet your a$$.

Yep, superb day, enjoyed by all my team (even Tony who's still limping after getting taken out by the pit lane speeding "truffle" team).
We're all up for the next one for sure, and the scales defintely get my vote (having had 152 seconds of stop go's !!).
Big thanks to John and Raceland for a superbly organised event.
p.s. The TVR's in the Steading car park on Saturday afternoon were the same guys who won the event - well done guys !

Scoty,
I'm sorry I let you guys down on Saturday. Never got back from Aviemore until early Sunday morning.
Saw loads of Scoobs up there; Dealers must do a roaring trade in that area, especially with Forresters and Outbacks. I think they out numbered Imprezas by about 4 to 1
Pics look great.

John,
Cracking day ! I've already thanked you in person a number of times but here it goes again ... cheers for another brilliantly organised event
I can't figure out why I was so crap though ... other people seemed to just click with it in the wet but I couldn't seem to get it at all.
Great to meet Rich and Iain (sp?)
I hope to see the both of you at Kames*.
Anyway, cheers again and I'll see you in Ayrshire ... (actually, I'll see you before ... in the Dandy for beers the morn )
* John, Iain (sp?) the Cossie driver who was in our team expressed great interest in coming to Kames. If you've got contact details for him, I'm sure he'd be most grateful for an invitation (he's an affa nice chappie )

No worries about missing out guy's, was a great day though.
Had some great fun at the top of the track sliding it round that 90 degree corner. Would love to try it in the dry. Must be flat out for most of the course?
Up for an Optimax run on thursday Paul, and anyone else?
Does XS sell Millers CVL?
Got the link in today for a trial run, was prety ruff, but good to know that it's working in the car. All it needs is a good map, ordered the VF23 today also, so took the Link back out until the VF23 is on.

A great day indeed. We may have been last, but we did ok for half of us meeting each other that day, doing 10 minute changes ( 40min = mad ) and losing the use of the kart for 5 minutes during the race as it decided it didn't want to go any further!
Thanks to John for organising the day. Looking forward to the next one already!
Anyhow, nice to put faces to some of the names on here and thanks to the guys in the team with me for making the day a good laugh as well.
