Trackday virgin alert - tyre recommendation pls given that the skies over Knockhill are as grey as tarmac right now!

I have some 5mm tread Toyos on the car now which would be good in the wet. Or I have a set of Bridgestones - the inside edge of the fronts are basically slick, or I can fit a set with 2-3mm all round.

I am no expert John however my choice for the wet would be the Toyo's I have had bad experiences (piroeting) on bridgestones.

Remember everything that Sasha showed you and enjoy yourself...

if you think there is any chance of a dry line I would use the worn b/stones,if it's raining at 3pm and looks cr4p for the night use the toyo's.

I was going for worn b/stones in the wet or dry,but since you are taking it so seriously perhaps you could post at 3 with a weather report .

I would go for the Toyos, but up the pressure to about 40psi (or higher) to save scrubbing the edges. This would give you reasonable grip in the dry, but also cover you if it started to rain. You will have slightly less grip than running the tyres at say 30psi, but the steering response will be better, but you'll have much less tyre wear.

If you went out on near slicks on a damp track (remember water can accumulate down near the hairpin), then you would end up tip-toeing around the track, or sliding it everywhere.

As temperatures will be low this evening, and it's only a two hour session, then tyre wear won't really be a problem if you stick to 5 to 8 laps at a time. It's once you get the tyres really hot, that they start to blister and wear quickly.

Cool

Sweet!

I've got my tripod with me as well - so hopefully be able to catch the sideways action without flinging the camera around

I've left the Toyos on as it is spotting now and again and I will not drive aggressively enough to wear much yet especially since I just turned the boost down by 2 PSI for the track

I would have thought that in this cold damp weather you would have upped it 2psi and run 18/19psi.

edit to add a /
