So who is going to Crail and running the car on the strip ??

Teknopete, your going from what I seen..... Anyone else ??

Interested in getting some "scooby scalps" on my first 1/4 mile drag

Keep an eye out for this car -

Dont worry, this will be the only side you'll see if we line up on the strip so you'll recognise me

(just a bit of banter ppl as most in the Scottish forum will know by now so dont take any offence )

Be a good day altho busy so not many runs

eheh

I know Pete should leave me and even more so if you've done it all before mate (not done 1/4 mile sprints yet so might bog down etc)..... If I get a good start then it should be good looking at your chart (extra 10/lbft than me)

Any UK spec Scoobies will be fair game tho

CC - whats your spec ??

Seriously tho, should be a good day. Hoping to get there aroun 9:30 to beat the crowds....you lot ??

If you see me/my car then come and say 'ello

My spec Richie ? Och just a few bits I cobbled up in me shed mate

This weeks additions include twin feed fuel rail, rising rate regulator, HP fuel pump, 5th injector, water injection and a pneumatic proportional rise FCD

Not a FMIC, Dawes, Link or VF turbo in sight so it won't be very fast

LOL Dempesy ya swine

My top radiator hose popped and that was me filling the coolant up after repairing it..... I then changed my underwear as seeing lots of smoke coming from under and around your car at 85+MPH as you hurtle down the strip tends to get your bowels moving

All set now tho.... Have a spare SAMCO hose in the boot

Richie,

U ready 4 Crail yet ??
Got the new link software and insalled it yday.
Was out 2day with Sam (top bloke) mapping big red.
We decided not to overdo it 4 now, so the advance hasn`t been touched (yet).

Stats :
Peak boost 1.4bar (20.3psi)
Norm boost 1.3bar (18.85 psi)
Max boost commin in at 3000rpm
And thats us just started m8
At 1 point we had 25 psi but backed it off (a little something 4 a rainy day ) with no probs.

Tell u wot though "yeeha / smiles per mile" factor is high

BTW Sam next time we go out remind me to check if I put the oil cap on b4 we go

Looks like it`s game on fellas

Ready ?!?.... I was born ready mate

LOL bit different now tho Pete

I was going by your last RR result but that was a "lowly" 0.8bar you were running then LOL.

As I say, most UK spec Impreza (as in the ones that start at 208BHP is it ?? and modded from here) is fair game once I get me technique perfected

oops, meant to say..... how's about I blag a run in your car then Pete ??

Wouldnt mind having a run in an EVO if anyone is running theirs

Pete and Co. - Looking for your views here as, even tho its different cars, its still a 4WD turbo I have so the same general rules apply.

Not sure of the best way to launch up the strip.

Plan on a couple of techniques to see how they do -

1. revving the engine between 3000-4000 to spin the turbo upto speed, keeping the clutch just below bite point and then letting it go (not pinging but not softly either)

2. keep revs around 3000RPM (peak torque) and then let clutch go

I reckon between the 2 of them I should get something I can work with......

Not really caring what I win or lose against as I am more interested in getting some times in.

Noticed Dave (white EVO on the videos above) had a damn good start against the black cossie..... any tips ??

Anyone else got a technique for 4WD turbos ??

Richie,

U have the right idea bud,

technique 1 is a good starting point, I`m not familiar with u r gear ratios but if they r anything like mine (WRX very short gears)
u will need to get the timing bang on or u`ll hit the rev limiter in 1st & 2nd and end up screwing up a good launch.

technique 2 is the easiest way to shock load and destroy the gearbox. Believe me i`m on number 4 Saying that my old paddle clutch helped wreck 2 of them and i did used to launch at 5000 - 6000 rpm Just think about it, using this technique u are transfering u r full torque to the box in the hope that the clutch will bite and the synchros will take it

The 2 best pieces of advice i can give are :

1. if u bugger up a launch DO NOT TRY TO RECOVER IT, fail gracefully, i`d guess that 7 outta 10 times when i`d try`d to recover it I only ended up overheating the clutch or transmission oil.

2. If u want the gearbox 2 last get the car moving, then floor it.
That way u do not shock the gearbox so much

I`m gonna b starting all over again this year for technique as the characteristics of my mota have changed a considerable amount from the gearbox / flywheel smasher it was last year So it could be interesting relearning it all again.

Talk to Dave as well I think he uses a different approach to mine.
Hope this helps m8

Cool

Gear ratios are not bad (57MPH in 2nd gear at limiter) but it still comes up quick as you can guess

Will be as kind as I can to the gearbox as its a standard item but it should be ok as its a bulletproof GETRAG item rated to around 350lb/ft altho its still a lot to ask the lil 1st gear to handle

Dave - will check the site tomorrow at work as I got nowt else to do there but surf the net LOL

Anyone mind me as a passenger (and vice-versa) to get some tips and see what a 300BHP Scooby or EVO can do ?? :rolleys:

Richie,

4 got 2 say the white evo in the vids is john`s, the white UK scoob is Dave`s (as above pic) and i 4 got whose the red WRX is

Summin else i 4 got 2 say is "go up against the qwickest thing u can find" u`ll try a lot harder and won`t feel so bad if u get cuffed Also don`t be fooled by the motas that screem away from the line, SOME of them run outta puff pretty damb qwick and by 1/2 way u should be able 2 flip them the bird

Cor i can smell burnt trnsmission oil & clutches already

LOL Pete, looking right forward to it now....

Jus seen your plot Dave..... Should be REALLY good if I can get the Unichip boost levels sorted correctly going by my last plot -

0.5bar (0.7bar overboost) = 239BHP and 243lb/ft

I am now (hopefully) running 1.1bar (1.35bar overboost) so am hoping for around 270-280BHP and 280-300lb/ft

If not then it will be about 1bar constant boost so around 260BHP

Pete

Thought you might be lurking on this thread

Ritchie
Best advice on launching for a good time is watch the lights....any less than a 0.5sec reaction time and you've jumped the start.Just find the balance on releasing the clutch & feeding in the power.Too much spin looses you time & distance in 1st gear.

Every cars different, so start with low revs, trying slightly higher each run till you find the optimum point where you have no spin & no stinky clutch.....thats if the adrenelin doesnt get the better of you

And watch out for female drag racers....especially ones driving white Subaru's

Question

What's a good 1/4 time and mph for a scoob/evo ? I presume the times all went up a bit last year after the 'no run up' lights were installed Or did the cars get more mods and go faster

Richie

Don't worry about it mate you'll thrash a std UK no problem. A std Calibra turbo would be about same as UK scoob so yours should be quite a bit quicker (high 14s I think for std UK)
Not sure that many standard scoobs go drag racing tho

Pete I noticed on an earlier thread you claimed the fastest terminal time for a scoob at 104 or 105 I think you said ?
No very impressive that Did you have 3 fat mates with you on that run

I'll be there boyo............ mad for it

Richie,

Can`t remember m8 bin that long since i`ve seen a std 1 m8.
Recon bout 14ish sounds there abouts though.

Sam,

U know i`m not takin the b8 m8, good try though

Andy,

If u`d seen the size of me subs m8 u`d understand, flatm8s would have made it lighter
That and she was soundin like a bag of spanners that day, so daren`t overdo it. Think the std ECU was in as well.
It was the Crailthrashers "come n test the lights" day out I think, if not it was the first Crail after it (when we got our results scribbled on bits of paper)

BTW guys somethin else I 4got 2 mention, jus coz a mota looks std don`t mean jack, Sam knows who`s i`m refering 2

Anyway canna sit round here gassin guys, gotta get oot n hoane my flaming technique

After our wee cruise today, then jumping back into mine again, I think there aint gonna be much between us on the strip m8.

BTW Crail newbies, check out the driftin oval.Nice big wide concrete oval circuit covered in water & diesel....great fun.Well worth a shot if you fancy a bit of sideways action with a few donuts thrown in (wash thoroughly afterwards )

Dave,

Cheerz bud
I recon that wee jaunt was jus wot the doctor ordered.
1st good run since the links been back in & she seemed to be doin wot was expected of her (unusual for a burd)

Did some datalogs on the way back n looks like there`s some scope yet, injectors I recon r gonna b the 1st limitation I hit.

Anyway, back 2 the strip.
Yeah I recon it`s gonna b down 2 the launch btw us m8.
Need 2 find a way of gettin her launched w/o the clutch slippin or breakin another gearbox, cos it stops other stuff gettin done £
Also need 2 get the mota polished up so the diesel n **** from the oval jus slides off.
C`mon all u newbie`s we`ll be gentle with u ,unless u want
it rough

Roll on the 24th
