Lot of talk about Dawes after last Sun. at Star.OK to fit to standard car as first mod(full decat and induction to come soon).
If so will I need boost and fuel/air guages which takes price of mod. up a fair bit?

Thumbs up

Fit a £30 boost gauge from eg. Falkland performance or AWD. Visit AWD motorsport and get a run on their Select monitor. Set for 1 PSI below fuel cut. No other mods necessary. If the part throttle response is too boosty drill a hole. Nothing else to say really.

Keith it is a £26 ball-spring device which is linked from the turbo outlet to the wastegate with the factory solenoid disconnected (but fuel cut is retained). The ball moves off the spring at a pressure set by the length of the spring which is adjusted by screwing the barrel of the device. Hence you get virtually no wastegate creep and a flat boost curve to the flow limits of your actuator/turbo setup.

Issues are - offsets in different conditions/gears (but probably less than factory), and high boost on part throttle with small turbos which can be virtually fixed by a small supplementary bleed.

I am working on an EBC design which is getting as sophisticated as the best aftermarket boost controllers such as the Apexi AVC-R. It will not make my car any quicker than the Dawes just give me a little more control.

So far I have been shaping my boost curve by altering the amount of bleed after the Dawes and the actuator rod length.

-increase spool up time and reduce part throttle boost and overshoot by increasing bleed.
-increase midrange by turning up the Dawes.
-change the top end boost by reducing the actuator rod length.

Works surprisingly well really.

Sam's Evo 7 was running one on Sunday at Star with devastatingly good results although obviously not like yours.

Looking at your page I see you already have a Blitz boost controller. Can you set boost levels for different engine speeds or is it one target?

hi john that was my old car the blitz unit i found was not very good in hot and cold days
in a hot day it would not make enought boost
i was not happy that i spent about £370 on something that a bleed
tee for £25 would have done the same
it was ment to take a reading from the engine then run what ever boost you had it set for.
but it did not do this.

my new car has a apexi power fc ecu with a handset and the boost kit
that is all part of the same system it has its own map sensor that sends info to the ecu then you can set your boost to whatever
you want and it caps it very well.
i dont know if apexi do this system for a scooby
if they do go for one.

But that would spoil all the fun of building my own

Seriously though I have tested it on the car and it gives very promising results. It uses PID control to lock onto your boost target no matter what the conditions.
