Question

Hi,

Was thinking about swapping my road wheels for track wheels tonight, so I don't have to get out of bed so damn early tomorrow.

Anyone know the legal limit for tread depth. At a guess, I'd say I've got 2mm on the left tyres.

Is this enough ?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Tread depth blobs are set at 1.6mm
That is the legal min depth
Think your allowed some areas lower as long as visible tread

Andrew,

The legal minimum tread depth for car and similar tyres in the United Kingdom and the European Community is 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising the central three quarters of the breadth of tread and round the entire other circumference of the tyre.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I drove around on them for a couple of days after the last Knockhill day, waiting to get the 17" wheels put on, and they handled OK.

I'll have a look when I get home and see if there are tyre wear indicators on them.

Now I just hope that I can get the wheel nuts off with the crappy little wheel nut spanner that they supply with the car.

Anyone know anywhere in Edinburgh where I can buy a wheel brace on a Friday afternoon ?

See you at Knockhill,

Andrew.

Don't know where they are in Edinburgh, but Halfords stock them for around £8 if memory serves.

NB I think the Halfords web site lets you find your nearest store.

Sods Law states that if anyone fits worn tyres tonight then it will be pi$$ing with rain tomorrow morning and we'll all wish you'd stuck with your road tyres!

Regards

Mark

PS: I'm in exactly the same position and don't know what to do!

Well, mine are changed over, so make that torrential rain, then snow, then some more torrential rain.

Andrew.
