is the motec the best system for a JDM sti9 or does anyone else recommend something else??

have a word with andyf. at the price he can supply and map them for and ease of getting to him and back, you'd be daft not to at least consider it
also depends on your next mods, if any. no point getting it all mapped if your gonna fit a bit induction kit the week after!

For a basically standard car of this year, Ecutek. The advantages of MoTeC and GEMS are more relevant for silly power.
Suggest losing the VTA dump valve as well, you'll overfuel on lift off, make a silly noise and probably be limited on part throttle boost when you're mapped.
If you just want your engine to be safe run octane booster and a knocklink.
