Question WHATS LIFE LIKE WITH A WRX STI RA

Hi folks,
Does any one have a wrx sti ra that could give me some advice on what this car is like to live with
I have the chance of buying a wrx sti ra version 2.
are they quite a hard core noisy tinny car?
Is it true they lack sound deadening, and have no extras like electric windows or mirrors and no air con.I know they are a light weight model but is all this removed to save weight.
any help would be grateful.

Default Brilliant!!!!!!!!

Hi there Matey. I just sold my WRX STI Version 5 Ra, 1999, She was the best scooby I have ever owned or driven. 310bhp, 125mph flat out, wheel spin in fourth gear on wet days
Yes it is true that there is no sound proofing, but I never really noticed it being bad. Manual windows, no air con , no luxurys at all, but I had the roof vent, controlable diff and water spray intercooler. The car is amazing as far as acceleration and handling go. The ride was a little hard and you find that the engine is reving high on motorway trips. That would be the down side. You dont really want to use this as an every day car. It just gobbles the fuel due to the short gearing.
I have a three month old WRX now with loads of stuff done and its quick, 300bhp, but the Ra would leave it standing. The WRX is nice and quiet and has all the toys again, but if I got the right money I would sell her and get another RA in a minute. Just mental for the money in my opinion.
Buy buy buy buy it!!!

Hope this helps

HI SOOB

HI Soob.

Saw both your Ex and new car at Dicksons the other day.

Nicky said the old HIsoob RA was the best Scoob He had driven.

Which I new was a lie 'cos he'd driven mine before I got it.
But it wasn't modded then LOL!

Have you transferred the REG? and Hows the new car coming on?

Cool If you like it wild, go for it!

Hello mate, I own a 95STI RA and although I had the gearbox replaced with a taller ratio it still puts a massive grin on my face and the delivery of power is fantastic. Yes its noisy and yes you have to roll up your windows and get out the car to adjust the mirrors , and the noise from the gearbox because of no soundproofing makes you worry until you get used to it, but the weight saved and the handling is super. Only thing you would have to do is fit standard four pots or something better if you can afford it. They are great cars. Good luck!

sg72, Ask Niki if he managed to keep the Ra on the road when he got her home for a night!! Something about a round about and facing the wrong way?

The new scooby is getting there, the new STI bottom end is at the garage now and its just a case of getting the lump droped in. Just got the bigger injectors but I'm going to run the new engine in before I take her up to the higher power on the rolling road. The guys at Dicksons are fitting the new flywheel, clutch and manifolds too when they build her, so it saves me doing it myself.
Cant wait to ger her back again, only had her two weeks and it all went pear shaped. Never mind, once its done properly there are no more worries.

What scooby you got, is it an Ra as well?

Hi Soob

Hope all goes well for you this time.

I run an STI 5 Type R ltd (Bought from Dicksons 2 yrs ago)

Has been fairly highly modified since for performance .
Niki's jaw dropped when I told him it was now kicking out over 400bhp.
That is. It would be if the clutch hasn't just gone and disintegrated not an hour ago.
Grief : We got it in Spades (Also had engine go a yr ago)

Keeping our chins up is a Scooby owner trait.

Steve.
