Unhappy Golf GT TDI..?

Unfortunately it looks like im gonna have to get shot of my turbobeastie as im now the only driver in the car pool (killie - Falkirk) and its costing me a fortune to travel ... 110 miles per day 6 days a week whilst only getting 300 miles to a tank (tops) = roughly £100.00 a week... and with a baby on the way it looks like im destined for a more bank-account-friendly motor... or so the wife has told me.. so im looking for your opinions on a diesel with a wee bit of oomph if such a thing exists.. the only one i can think of is the golf but i dont know anyone who owns one...

Cheers Paul.

Thumbs up

Fantastic Motors, my folks had one until a few weeks ago. In fact they've had 3 GT TDi's.

Started off with the 115 then on to the 130 and finally the 150.

All I can say is Fantastic Motor. Great Fuel Economy, averaging around 56 mpg.

Oh ...........and fast as F**k ! (For A diesel)

Very Torquey Too.

I used to have a GTi 16v, would have swapped it for the 150 GT TDi without a second thought.

Lovely Motor : Buy One. Doesn't sound like a tractor either

One of my mates folks have the 150 version & they swear by it, reliable with great mpg & very torquey.

Would definately have one, had a shot a few times and its a good car to drive & does go when you put your foot down.

"Sexy blue scoob" did this exact change - turbo wagon to a 130 tdi, and she really likes it. The only thing that lets it down is the handling. Drive one and see what you think, but I doubt you'll be too disappointed in the power - it comes in nice and low in the rev range and the economy it returns is amazing !

My other half has a 110 GT TDI, had it from new, 2 faults, the well known engine judder when returning to idle and the suspension is crap. Cars done 45k miles and the engine judder has been there from new, doesn't cause a problem but bit annoying. Believe problem was to do with the flywheel which they changed on later models - VW never admitted a problem but it's widespread on the 110 model (not sure about 115's). As for suspension, again a well known problem on the MK 4 golfs, car handles more like a boat than a car....Luckily?? it boke a front coil spring last week and I've just (last night) fitted a Gmax suspension kit that's improved it a lot. Other than that car's super, good fuel consumption (seen just over 60 avg) and plenty quick.

Have one as a company car. It's the PD 150 version and it really does shift. You're not getting a scooby, but considering you get around 42 mpg for something that does 0-60 in 8.3 secs, it aint bad.

The torque is amazing!!

I still miss my scoob though :-(
