Tour D'Ecosse 2003
#1
Better late than never, here's the plans for this year's TDE, which I've been sorting out with a few of you off-line, as I've been manically busy here at work (not had a day off since the 12th October!!).
This year the Tour will be based in Ullapool, and we'll be staying at the Four Seasons Travel Lodge Hotel (www.ullpaoolhotel.com) at a cost of £24 per person per night on a B&B basis. There's another hotel next door if this one fills up.
BEARING THIS IN MIND, IF ANYONE IS PREPARED TO SHARE A TWIN ROOM, THEN PELASE STATE THIS WHEN BOOKING, AS IT WILL HELP US GET THE MOST NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THE SAME HOTEL.
Can you please phone 01854 612905, and quote SIDC when you book a room. The rate should be £24 per person per night on a B&B basis, with a 3 course dinner being an extra £12 or so. Dinner will only be available on the Friday evening, as the chef has a planned night off on the Saturday, however there are plenty of other good eating places in Ullapool.
This year, we aim to explore a lot further north, up and around Lochinver, Tongue etc., exploring some fantastic roads which have normally been out of reach due to our southern starting position, and wasting more than an hour getting through Fort William etc.
Starting much further north, gives us a lot more options for routes, and I'm sure we'll some great ideas in during the next week.
Best Regards
John

the roads up that way are amazing!!
i went for a holiday run up that way after i got me old scoob.
up round lochinver was the best
there was a single track road that went way out round a tip..
amazing... felt like i was on a stage
the other roads were soo quick
and the surface was so smooth!
good luck to ya all!

I'm away that weekend too. Having a scooby weekend...Friday = car getting rolling roaded, Sat = Scottish Motor Show, Sunday = Crail!!!!!
Have fun!!!
PS - watch out for police if anyone coming thru Inverness. One man has a vendetta - charging anyone who has a "performance exhaust" ie. in his eyes, if it's not the exhaust it rolled out of the factory with!!! Nothing to do with BHP or emissions - just if it makes ANY noise!!!

Brilliant web-site found by Ken!
Click on a starting point, switch off the map, click faster a few times, choose your picture size depending on speed on connection and sit back and enjoy some of Scotland's best driving roads.
You'll notice the complete lack of traffic on the Applecross run, but it was a bit cloudy that day!

Found that a few weeks ago when looking at hotels, as it is on a link from the Ullapool home page. I have been addicted to it ever since, and have it on the background of the works PC as a sort of screensaver
Pity it doesnt do the entire country, but if anyone fancies strapping a GPS & a camera onto their car we could do a few more roads to add to it this weekend
Looking forward to the real thing, our treck starts on Thursday morning

Well we managed to avoid Inverness and that particular copper
Thanks for the link, keep us informed on here as well
Good Luck with your stance, I'm sure you have done nothing illegal.
