Oil leak..?
#1
My wifes MY98 Sport has developed a nasty oil leak over the last few weeks... i had it into the local garage (not scoob) and the mech couldnt discover where it was coming from.. i heard that sometimes the sump goes on scoobs but he seemed to think it was coming from a plate (?) behind the timing belt, so i took my MY99 turbo round to see if it was anymore obvious what the plate was on a clean engine but to no avail...and as i dont have the fogiest about the scoob engine(christ it took me ages to find the bloody spark plugs never mind this..!!)any ideas would be gratefully passed onto someone who knows what they are talking about..
Cheers Paul
Also if anyone knows of a good garage/mechanic in ayrshire other than S&S(main dealer = muchos doshos)

Cheers pongo the smell is coming when the oil drips onto the exhaust so if the rocker gasket is above any part of the exhaust that would explain it .... thanks bud

Just had a wee search for 'oil leak' and there have been quite a few crank seal probs thrown up so it could be that.... is it easy to tell what one it may be from these two..?

Paul,
If its due to oil dripping onto the exhaust it`s more than likely to be the driver side one, as the exhaust isn`t really anywhere near the passanger side rocker cover at any point other than where the manifold connects to the block
Had the same prob last year and it turned out 2 b the rocker cover gasket
Checkin oil filter makes sense as the exhaust manifold runs past that
Another good un I`ve seen is the seal on the dipstick perishing
and therefore under heavy load oil leeking out of there.

My MY98 Turbo had an oil leak when i bought it and it turned out to be the crank seal. I had it replaced when the timing belt was done @ service time.
Let's hope it's the RCG.
