Question

Folks

Does anyone have any more info on the above event?

There was an article on it in last Friday's Herald in the motoring section.

Quote extracts:
'organised in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief, the display at Helensburgh Pier Car Park will open at 10am on Saturday 16 August.'

'Racing cars covering a 50 year period, World Rally Championship contenders from 1980's to present day, some spectacular high-performance road cars & a stunning collection of anniversary American vehicles will feature'

'an Audi Quattro S1 & a Ford Focus WRC will show how the sport (rallying) has developed since audi introduced four-wheel drive to the World Rally Championship'

Sounds interesting & is in aid of a well worthy cause.

I hate to sound negative about it but it will be cr@p! The only good thing about Helensburgh is the road out of it!

Do you think the venue will have such an impact/effect on the event? Don't know why Helensburgh was chosen as the article didn't say.

It does say that there will be WRC cars; Jordan, Toyota & BAR F1 cars & the Audi R8 Le Mans car!

If those cars are going to be there then they will most definately be old F1 cars!

Defo the venue, was down a few months ago and the car park still has the same pot holes since I was a kid! If they hold it in the main car park where on earth are all the visitors going to park

Also who on earth would go to Helensburgh for something like that?

AJ
PS. will be down next week visiting the folks so don't intend to be down twice in one week!

Defo not a Helensburgh resident nor do I have any historical links there either.

Looks like your recommendation is that it's probably not worth the trip.

There are more details on this event including costs in today's Daily Record - Road Record supplement.

There is also a Rally Challenge on at Knockhill on Saturday apparently

ok then MY94 where are you going to park your car then? There are 3 car parks in Helensburgh, one of which is the pier car park and that will be getting used for the occasion, the second is the supermarket car park and the third is so tucked away only the locals know about!

So that leads me to this, will you park your pride and joy in a supermarket car park ???

Yes I agree it is a worthwhile cause but probably best to go on the train or even better still arrive in style on the Waverley!

Waverly will prob be cancelled that day as the people won't be able to get on or off due to cars in the car park
My mother lives there and I agree with AJ - prob not worth visiting as the population of Glasgow will be there for the day..
