Called Nobles to see about prices for wheels.
Got quoted 285 + VAT for a standard MY98 wheel
Mega steep i thought, so then asked about a 17" P1 wheel.
171 + VAT for a P1 wheel ???
Hows that then ??

That's the price set by IM, not Nobles (although they may add a bit more too the cost price than another Dealer).
Basically parts sit on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere. They are costed when manufactured and prices don't drop dramatically on old stock.
I've seen this in IT. You can buy a memory chip for a new Compaq/HP server for say £100. Try getting the same size chip for a 5yr old server and they start quoting £500 (or more).
Goes against all common sense.

I suppose so Ozzy, looking at it like that.
I was still expecting the P1 wheel to be dearer though, must have plent stock.
Might try and haggle for a deal if i go for 4. Plus an SIDC discount on top.

For **** sake don't buy an alloy from a dealer?! You can get MY98/99 alloys from scoobynet for a lot less!! I've seen totally unused sets of 4 for about £100 with no rubber or even £400 with untouched rubber (i.e. taken off the day the car was bought and put in the shed!) so the alloys are virtually free!!
I buckled an alloy and someone on SN down south gave me two for free, all I paid was postage - one was slightly scuffed but useable and on the car now

I've been looking on here for some alloys, plenty of gold ones for sale, but not many silver.
Easy enough to get them sprayed i suppose.
I'm actually thinking of upgrading anyway, and if poss, would prefer to stick with Subaru wheels, thats why i was thinking along the lines of the P1 wheels.
I might just chance it on the damaged rim for a month, then get on the hunt for new ones.-

Put a post up in wanted or if you a really desperate in 'general' (and hope it don't get moved too quick). A lot of peeps don't have MY98/99 alloys for sale as such but they have them gathering dust in the garage and would probably sell them if the money is being offered on the plate

Cheers lads.
Popped into Auto Image at lunchtime, he rekons the wheel could be repaired.
But not sure how strong it would be for the future.
Not 100% desperate for a wheel just yet. Other reason i was looking is that my tyres are gonna need replaced in the next month or two, so thought it may be a good time to upgrade.

To be honest Johnny if you've got some spare money then get a set of 17s of a scoobynetter! They will improve the handling of the car and 17s look the correct size for a classic IMHO. You'll have to live in the 'for sale' forum as the good 17s tend to get snapped up quickly. Having spent months half considering it and offering for some I'd say £400 would get you a very nice non-kerbed set with some half-decent tread remaining

Ta mate.
Seem to be alot of wheels kicking around for sale, just a case of trying to get your bid in first when they come up.
Haven't been too many P1 wheels for a while though.
