Question

Returned from St Fergus today to find part of a belt sticking out from the back of the bonnet.
Further investigation led me to the altenator belt which low and behold had a chuck missing!!

Is this a piece of P*** to fit?
Advise please

Craig

Is the alt belt the one you see as soon as you open the bonnet? Is the timing belt inside the plastic cover?

I noticed the adjustable bolt on the alternator when I was fitting my oil temp sender. How do you know what's the right tension on the belt?

I thinkI'll need to move the alternator out of the way to fit my oil pressure sender, but I don't want to screw anything up.

Sorry to go slightly off topic,

Stefan

On the longest run on the belt, you want to tension so you can just twist this part of the belt 90 degrees.

Best to take alternator off to fit the sender unit for oil pressure

That's what I was afraid of. So if I take the alternator off what's liable to go wroing with that belt? Do I need to do anything before I just set about it with a socket set and remove it?

Does it need to line up in anyway or is it just getting the tension right as you mentioned already?

Cheers,
Stefan

Don't need to do anything else and no lining up required.

As all good Haynes manuals will tell you. Refitting is a reversal of removal

That's assuming I know how to remove it properly

Thanks,
Stefan
