Yep, after more than 5 years of Impreza ownership, I had my first little "chat" with a couple of gentlemen of the Borders Constabulary. After the karting I was heading down to Peebles to MarkO's place with JohnS following. As most will know, the A701 is fast and flowing and hence we were pressing on somewhat. Anyhow, 5 miles outside of Peebles along a straightish bit of road I was booked for 86mph in a 60 limit. They were primarily looking for bikers and happened to get an Impreza instead.

What sort of penalty should I expect? I was thinking along the lines of 4 points and £100 fine.... Although one copper thought that I might (he stressed "might") get let off.

Same sort of speeds just over a month ago a mate of mine, 3 points and £60.

That was just heading out of Duns.

Hope all goes well.

Aye, JohnS got a ticking off as they could "do" one of us. As I was the lead car, I got the pleasure...

Miles,

Sorry to hear that m8
Look on the bright side though, lucky it wasn`t en-route eh

BTW who had the blue V plated scoob on Sataurday?
They were up 4 a bit of sport after the event, just not that much up 4 it. Either that or their hardware wasn`t

So they were looking to do some bikers were they?
check this out. They aren't all bad, there's a few decent ones about. Hard to find them though.
So were you driving at a speed appropriate to the conditions or were they just out to generate some revenue.

Miles,

Did you not have your Bel Euro Detector on ? Mine picked up the cops on the A90 with a laser last week? I remember you saying you only put it on for longer M-way journeys though ?

I do and it did detect the laser pulse which got me. Unfortunately there was no traffic in front of me for me to be prewarned by the detector

Assuming you'll need to have your day in court, you're lucky it will be in Peebles. There's no set scale for what the sheriff will hand down as a penalty, a lot depends on who it is and what mood they're in on the day. You may have a friendly police officer there to say something in your defence, if he said you may get off with it. Bit puzzled by that statement, though . Only way you'll get off with it is if the officer didn't process the ticket - were you wearing the fishnets?? Also concerned that they were using laser - I'd always thought they used VASCAR on the A701. Ah well, time to get more technology fitted .

If you'd been caught on the A68, you'd be up in front of the beak in Selkirk, and 86mpg in a 60 zone is a hanging offence there .

Duns court (A1, A697) don't go over the top either but I'd guess Pyrocam's mate was given a fixed penalty to get £60 and 3 points - a court will always hand out more!

Above info not the result of experience but the result of trawling through the archives of the local rag. Hope you get a light one ....

Best of luck,
Brian
