Gotta admit I was lookin at rx7s recently, but the thing that put me off was the rumour that they need a new engine after 30K

Pete, if you get a well treated one 70k miles should be fine on the engine, unfortunately they are even fussier about their warm up / cool down periods than the scoob and require regular oil top ups to keep going this long.
Re the suicide doors: you cannot see what is coming along behind you and you are in the way if something hits your door towards the front of the while you are getting out / opening the door.
