Default Number plate on retension

Guys I put my private plate on retension when I sold my scoob last April,

Two questions

Will the dvla write to me to renew it in April?

How do I now assign it to my wife's car, is it another form or is it easier now?
Thanks

Ted

I may keep it for myself when I get the A45 but need to milk the 14 number for a few months first

You need to download a form off the dvla website to assign it, Send it off with the V5 and mot, Keep your tax disc though and they will forward you the new documents, Not sure if they contact you as I've never had one on retention for over 12 months, lol

They don't send a reminder. Don't let it expire or you could lose it.

Renewing your V778

You can renew your V778 retention document for up to 3 years if it’s about to expire. This costs £25 per year.

Send your V778, signed by the grantee, to DVLA Personalised Registrations with the appropriate fee by cheque or postal order payable to ‘DVLA, Swansea’.

If it has already expired, enclose a covering letter to explain why you are renewing it late. DVLA will consider your application.

They will send a reminder 1 month before the retention ends, so you should expect it soon.
Even if you forget to renew they are still lenient.
I forget to renew mine 2 years ago but was recently able to put it back on retention after paying the £50 missing fees that were due.

It'll also be going on an A45 when it arrives

+1

Also you can nominate to give the plate another person. Retention name or nominated name must match insurance and V5 of taxed vehicle IIRC
