Default Stay away from this car. FG06 AYJ

Just a word of warning guys. This car was owned by a lad i know. He started to have running issues. So he used it as part ex against a new car from a dealership up in the NorthEast.

He then found out afterwards that the symptoms he was having was to do with the chocolate pistons and that it needed to be rebuilt/forged.

This car is just a WRX and not STI as stated. All the hardcore guys will know this anyway. Just for anyone else wanting to join the Subaru fold.

Not to mentioned how overpriced it is

The seller has changed the steering wheel to an STI one. When it was px'ed it was just a standard wheel

With a Wrx interior too.

And the best bit of the advert - 1 month Warranty! Erm, I'm pretty sure traders have to give a 3 month warranty these days.

What a toilet of a car.

Shame.

We all know the WRX is a better car than the STi though, so what's the problem?

Price has dropped since I looked last night. Still too much though especially since there's no tax?

And it is now listed at a WRX. Must have been my email to the man last night asking for the chassis number as it did not look like an STI.

Unsurprisingly, I did not get a response.

I just spoke to him and asked why it has changed from an STI to a WRX over-night. Apparently, the HPI check confirmed it as an STI but he has now done some further investigation and has discovered it is WRX.

Apparently, the previous owner spent £5k making it look like an STI.
He said it also goes like an STI, so I asked if it has had an STI engine installed. His answer was no.....

He hasn't got a clue what he is selling. Seemed convinced that a turbo timer was something that would seal the deal.

Honestly, some people.

I sent him a mail this morning and he called me back.

He genuinely seemed under the impression it was an STI as he had had an HPI check which indicated STI although he admitted the log book only said WRX and assumed STI was never included. I pointed out some of the differences so I guess he checked them out.

Also suggested he checked the engine.

got to feel for the trader a bit, he's obviously taken on a car he doesn't know much about as no one would risk a poor running 2.5 in p/x if they knew the deal with these! I have to say I'm not overly convinced that the private seller px'd the car with good intentions, more like looked into the fault saw the horror stories and jumped ship quick smart which of course he's more than entitled to do, but it's the trader who's now stuck with a car he's paid over the odds for which will be a boomerang once it does sell.

Only people really at fault are Subaru!

I completely disagree with that statement.

The trader bought the car. It is his responsibility to check the car and confirm that it is what it is. If he sold it on as an STI for STI money and then the buyer discovered it was a WRX, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court.

He just seemed convinced that because it has got 'loads of stuff' on it (his words) that it is a brilliant car.
Even said it has STI wheels, to which I said, no it hasn't. He has no idea and it wouldn't take long, may be an hour to get clued up on what he has bought.

He only knocked the price down once people such as myself asked for the chassis number. Says it all if I am honest.

If he paid too much as he thought it was an STI, that's his problem.

He did say it was the first Subaru he had bought. Maybe the last too!

To be fair someone without Subaru experience jumping into a WRX will probably think it has STI power and would be a "brilliant car".

I would be interested in any correspondence between him and the person he got it from.

I'm amazed that the 'seller' who partex'd with the dealer has not got criticised yet.

He's clearly sold a car with big problems onto a unsuspecting trader.

Granted some traders deserve their comeuppance but some are no worse that you or I and are just trying to make a living.

If it was the dealer who sold (knowing there was a problem) the car to the public he would get slated. Why is it the partex'er gets away with it?

Fair point. But there is a lot a speculation here.

It is the traders responsibility to make sure that they are not getting shafted, just as it would be the buyers responsibility in a private sale.

The car is what it is. A modified WRX with a suspected engine issue which is not uncommon for this the 2.5. A quick google search is all that was needed to tell the trader all he needed to know about this model.

The best solution would be for someone to do a HPI check but I am not wasting my money on one.

Looking at the guy's stock list he isn't the greatest trader with the biggest cash reserves - probably thought the Impreza would make him a tidy sum.

Throwing the plate in to https://motor.confused.com/?nt=1 immediately names the car as a WRX.

Bang on, I was just about to comment about this.

Sellers get rid a dodgy car to an inexperienced dealer and then his mate warns people about this car that THEY passed on into circulation

What a ****! Some poor inexperienced dude is going to buy this car and have £££££ to spend without knowing yet.
I would never sell a fecked car, I'd at least fix it then sell or keep it.

Or sell it but let the buyer know it needs money spending on it. I've actually been on the lookout for a hawkeye that needs the engine doing but nothing popping up

Nah I wan't an STI . Tbh i'm weighing up options. I had my heart set on a hawkeye sti but forged ones at the right money are few and far between, torque GT just got a 55 plate in thats been forged but they want 12k for it, 12k for a 55 plate car is too much.
