Am I right in thinking that classic seats fit into a newage and newage fit into a classic?

Yes, mounting wise the seats are interchangeable all the way up to the hatch in 2007.

However a set of newage seats in a classic sit approx. 25-35mm higher than the orginal seats. Nothing wrong with that, but it does alter the driving position slightly.

In light of that obviously classic seats in a newage will sit lower.
