1 Minute idle for MY01 WRX?
#1
On the new MY01 WRX do you still have to let the motor idle for 1 minute after a hard drive?
There is no sticker on the door or any information in the manual. Has anything changed?

It's still a turbo engine, so after a hard blast, you should let it idle, to give oil time to cool a little.
As to what constitues a hard drive, well, that's really down to the individual.
If you're really worried about this then fit a turbo timer, as that should stop you from just turning the car off. There are some on the market that will actually calculate how long the engine idles.

Turbo timers can and do mess with your alarm's immobilisation. THIS INVALIDATES IT'S THATCHAM APPROVAL and you may find yourself in trouble if the car is stolen/subsequently recovered...
Just sit in the car and let it idle after a blast. If your drive ends with a slow bit before you get home, you're nicely cooling things off anyhow.

good point there chiark.
My TT is not wired into the alarm system, and I never let it TT without me being either in the car, or within 6 feet of it, plus I usually lock the steering before getting out.

chiark,
damn right! i was over in Germany a few months ago and having a blast down the autobahn, noticed that the old jungle juice was a bit low, so I pulled off and went to a service station and pulled up and just sat there, engine idling for about five mins and I started to read a mag, did get some strange looks from the petrol station staff when I then decided to pull up to the pumps to get petrol.
