Default Engine Rebuild Advice Required Please

I've got a 1996 turbo 2000 with 130k on the clock bought second hand a week or so ago and I know nothing for definite about its history so was looking at taking the engine out this weekend so it could be stripped down and rebuilt.

Just wondered what the best thing to do would be in general ? Replace everything as standard or get some up rated gear put in ?

I'm not in any rush and don't have endless amounts of money to throw away but would like the peace of mind if having a sound lump with a goal of 300bhp

Cheers

Best advice anyone can give you is sell it and buy something with the power level you require as it will save you a fortune

Mod it properly to 300bhp and enjoy it.
Using the right parts and good mapping it should be fine. No point spending out for an engine build if it doesn't need one. Just keep some money aside/save up should the worst should happen.
And if it does happen, using a newage sti short motor is your best bet imo. Good for 400bhp and relatively cheap.
But an even better option, buy one already done.

I need to either rebuilt or replace my 70,000mile engine in mine. Pressuring coolant on boost only . I was thinking a newage sti engine, but again I'm not chasing high power, and don't have the biggest budget.

Just for clarity, only a New Age Sti short block can be directly fitted to any other 2.0 Impreza.
